The world was still busy getting over the Barbie hangover when Ryan Gosling announced that he is indeed doing another film on a massive scale, and to top it all, it is an homage to stunt artists. The movie, which marks his reunion with Emily Blunt, became the talk of the town for various reasons. The trailer spread like wildfire, and everyone was excited for it to finally hit the big screens. But what was also very fascinating was the promotional campaign of the movie, full of adrenaline-pumping sequences. Did you know that the film actually involved a scene where Gosling jumped from a 12-story building while acting? Yes, it did, and Ryan did that stunt himself.

Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy Jump

No, we are not kidding. The Fall Guy is about the stunt people who put their lives in danger. The story revolves around a mix-up that happens in the life of Ryan Gosling, in turn affecting Emily Blunt, and how the drama unfolds. In this dramedy, there is one particular scene that left Ryan with sweaty palms because it involved him jumping from the 12th floor of a building. Recalling doing it, Ryan, in his conversation with Men’s Health, revealed how he blacked out for nine of the 12 floors. Read on to know everything you should about the same.

When asked about shooting the scene for The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling said, “I’m told that I did that, yeah—I think I blacked out for at least nine of those stories. I have a fear of heights and I knew it was coming. . . . The movie’s called The Fall Guy. We worked into the story that I would take a fall at the beginning. As we started to block it, it just felt more and more exciting to us that it be a part of this long one-take where you start in the trailer with the character, you follow him through the set, up an elevator, up 12 stories, get harnessed in, and then dropped off the building.”

Ryan Gosling explained how it was important for him to do that stunt because he had to experience it firsthand to feel what his character and the many stunt people around him go through daily. “That would be the best way to have the audience experience what a moment in the life of a stunt person is like. It was also important for me to experience what a moment in a stunt performer’s life might be like if I was gonna play one.”

David Leitch Said…

The Fall Guy director David Leitch, who was also part of that conversation, added, “The idea that it was a one-er made it all the more complex—for anybody. I don’t think that there’s a stunt guy who could act as cool before [laughs] doing a four-page scene and going up an elevator and then getting hooked to a rig and then stepping off the ledge. Ryan did an incredible job!”

The Fall Guy is now available on Zee5 on rent, and you can access it with your OTTplay Premium subscription too. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
