American Primeval is set to release on the streamer in 2025.
Fans of The Walking Dead: Dead City are anxiously awaiting the 2025 release of the second season of the series, which focuses on Maggie and Negan. The first season of the series had an amazing cast and has added several new cast members, including Sons of Anarchy’s Kim Coates, to the upcoming season. Coates will also star in a new Netflix limited series, American Primeval.
According to Deadline, American Primeval was directed by Pete Berg (Friday Night Lights) and written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant). The six-part series will premiere on Netflix beginning Jan. 9, and the first look images make this series out to be extraordinary, at least as far as cinematography goes.
According to Netflix, American Primeval is set in 1857 and “is a fictionalized dramatization and examination of the violent collision of culture, religion, and community as men and women fight and die for control of this world.” The story follows those longing to head west and the brutal lawlessness they encounter. The series examines the violent conflicts between religion and culture.

Coates will portray Brigham Young, leader of the Morman Church who isn’t afraid to use his Mormon Army, the Nauvoo Legion, to further his cause.

Kim Coates joins The Walking Dead: Dead City
In April 2024, Deadline announced that Kim Coates had been cast in the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City, a sequel series to AMC’s post-apocalyptic series The Walking Dead.
Dead City was created for AMC by TWD CCO Scott M. Gimple and showrunner Eli Jorné. The series continues Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie’s (Lauren Cohan) stories years after the conclusion of the main series. The first season focused on the rescue of Maggie’s son, Hershel (Logan Kim).
The second season will see Negan returning to his old ways as he partners with the Dama (Lisa Emery), a gang leader in Manhattan. Coates joins the story as Bruegel, the brilliant and manipulative leader of a fierce group also located on the island.
Coates is joined by several other new cast members, including Dasha Polanco, Jake Weary, Keir Gilchrist, and Pooya Mohseni.
