Daryl Dixon is one of the most popular characters on AMC’s long-running horror drama The Walking Dead, and as one of the few who have been around since its first season, he’s had a long time to evolve. However, one thing his character arc hasn’t delivered is a sex life.

Executive producer Scott Gimple finally addressed that lack in an interview with Looper, but his response was still evasive. “And then as far as Daryl and love, again, you know me, I’m not about spoilers,” he said.

Daryl, who is portrayed by Norman Reedus, was created from scratch for the show rather than being based on one of the characters from the source comics. This has given his future an extra edge of mystery, but fans embraced him from the start, and as fans are wont to do, soon began to speculate on his amorous prospects. Many still hope for his close friendship with Carol to turn romantic, although others see it as a more familial relationship.

Gimple remarked on the possibilities between Daryl and Carol, saying, “Without going too deep into it, I would say Daryl and Carol have one of the most intimate relationships that we’ve seen on the show. I’ll just say that.” Carol, portrayed by Melissa McBride, is one of Daryl’s fellow survivors who debuted in Season 1.

Although he wouldn’t confirm anything, Gimple did offer some hope to fans who just want Daryl to break his long period of chastity. “But I will say that we will be looking at other dimensions of Daryl’s character that we’ve never seen before on the show coming up very soon,” he said. “And it’s going to be… I can’t wait to see those other dimensions of Daryl Dixon.” This could mean anything, of course, but sex and love are still uncharted ground for Daryl, so they could qualify as something never seen before.

The Walking Dead premiered in 2010, and is set to conclude with its eleventh season. Six bonus episodes for Season 10 will be airing in 2021, as production was cut short due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton and Cooper Andrews.
