The Walking Dead is no stranger to character death. Whether at the hands of the Walkers or other humans, many characters in the group have fallen. However, one actor was surprised by his character’s death on the show, and not in a good way.

During a livestream interview with Commando TV, Vincent Ward, who portrayed Oscar, discussed the behind-the-scenes circumstances of his character’s death. In response to a question about his departure, Ward revealed, “I didn’t even know I was getting killed. I was pissed.” He went on to explain that he was in makeup when he saw the script and read through it, “I got all the way to the end, and it said, ‘Oscar dies.’ I was like, ‘What?’ I grabbed the script and I just threw it down.”

Ward then recalled that Andrew Lincoln, who played Rick Grimes, walked into makeup afterwards and expressed surprise that Ward was not told about his death. Later on, producers and showrunner Glen Mazzara apologized to Ward personally for not informing him sooner.

In The Walking Dead, Oscar was a former prison inmate who joined Rick’s group when they took refuge at the prison in season 3. During the episode “Made to Suffer,” Oscar was killed by the psychotic Governor’s forces during a raid on Woodbury.
