The actor who showcased his musical chops in Wonka, has been working with a vocal coach to capture Dylan’s unique voice.
In an interview in October 2023 with GQ, Chalamet said he was inspired by his Dune co-star Austin Butler’s work ethic in capturing the voice of Elvis for his Golden Globe winning performance and for his accent as Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two.
The dedicated star turned to Butler’s team for his prep as the Blowin’ in the Wind singer. ‘There’s a wonderful dialect coach named Tim Monich, vocal coach named Eric Vetro. Movement coach named Polly Bennett. I just saw the way he committed to it all—and realized I needed to step it up.’
The actor who prepared for the role for three years said he turned to the singer’s own words for inspiration, reading and re-reading the Like a Rolling Stone artist’s memoir, Chronicles: Volume One.
‘You need your ability to imagine, your ability to observe, and your ability to experience,’ the multifaceted actor said, ‘And if any one of those is compromised, your ability to create is compromised in some way.’

Indie Wire shared a video of Chalamet and Monaca Barbaro, who stars as Joan Baez, singing a duet on April 16. He plays the guitar and the harmonica in the festival setting.
The goal, according to vocal coach Eric Vetro, is to take ‘on all the characteristics of Dylan’s voice and his mannerisms and his speech patterns, and bringing that into the music—so that when you hear Timothée do the music, what you’re really getting is the essence of Bob Dylan.’
The movie follows the rock legend’s journey from Minnesota to New York to meet Woody Guthrie through his memorable 1965 performance at the Newport Folk Festival when he plugged in an electric guitar and made music history.
A Complete Unknown was expected to be released sometime in 2025.
