A new set video from The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 shows Negan reunited with his favorite weapon. One of several high-profile Walking Dead spinoffs to premiere in recent months, the six-episode first season centered on Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan that’s cut off from the mainland. Set after the end of The Walking Dead, the duo goes in search of Maggie’s kidnapped son Hershel (Logan Kim). The tense alliance was a ratings success for AMC, which quickly announced a second season.

A new set video from The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, via Craig Semon, reveals Morgan walking on set during a break from filming in Worcester. Dressed as Negan, the actor is carrying Lucille, his favorite bat. It’s unclear how this fits with the spinoff, in terms of whether it’s a flashback or if Negan is getting a new Lucille.

What’s Ahead In The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2?

Negan’s Received New Bats Before

Since his introduction to The Walking Dead universe, Negan has lost out on his favorite bat before and received a new one. After the weapon, named after his wife, was destroyed the first time, a young character fashioned him another. That, too, would eventually perish after Negan had to use it to kill a walker. He ultimately decides to burn the weapon and destroy it.

In terms of how a new weapon might play into the story after the Walking Dead: Dead City season 1 finale, Negan is in a position to help Dama (Lisa Emery) take over Manhattan. It would put him and Maggie on opposing sides after the tense alliance they shared to rescue Maggie’s son. However, that potential clash is complicated by Negan’s evolution as a character and complicated emotions.

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 1’s finale finally revealed what the main villains wanted with Negan, which sets up his season 2 arc.

Maggie, for her part, has a choice to make about whether she wants to save Negan or rescue him in The Walking Dead: Dead City. She could either try to bring him back from the influence of Dama or finish off her obsession with the man who killed her husband Glenn. In any case, Lucille’s potential return carries with it thematic resonance.
