The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has been full of serious and intense moments, but its funniest scene yet hilariously calls out an awkward truth that fans have been thinking for three years. Rick Grimes is a complex character, known for both his noble and selfless leadership, as well as his ruthless nature, but his more humorous moments often go under the radar. Despite The Ones Who Live featuring Rick cutting off his own hand and feeling hopelessly trapped by the CRM, the spinoff still provided one of Rick’s funniest scenes in the entire franchise.
Rick’s hilarious scene is made even funnier by the fact that The Walking Dead is finally admitting an awkward truth that fans have known for years. Adding some humor to Rick’s dark Walking Dead return makes the latest spinoff all the more memorable, and by having some more comedic moments in among all the drama, The Ones Who Live is proving to be one of the franchise’s best projects in years. By poking fun at one of its characters, The Walking Dead is proving that, despite having such high stakes, it can still provide the audience with some much-needed laughter.
The Walking Dead Finally Admits Jadis’ CRM Haircut Is Awful
After three years, The Walking Dead has finally admitted that Jadis’ latest haircut is awful. Jadis has always stood out as different to the other survivors, but her CRM haircut amplified this even more. Debuting the new style in World Beyond, Jadis’ new haircut may have been used to signal a change in her character, but the new hair is far from stylish. Fans have acknowledged this for years, but The Ones Who Live finally called out this hilarious truth. Rick gets the satisfaction of telling Jadis to her face, stating, “You’re a hero, with a shit haircut.”
Andrew Lincoln’s delivery is perfect, and his character looks proud of the quip. These more subtle moments mixed with powerful storylines help make Rick Grimes one of The Walking Dead‘s best characters. It shows that despite Jadis saving his life, he is far from grateful about being stuck in the Civic Republic. Being called out is a blow to Jadis’ ego, even if she does have the sense of humor to handle it. Still, the scene shows that The Walking Dead is finally willing to admit Jadis’ haircut is awful while providing the audience with some laughter in the process.
There’s Actually A Deeper Meaning Behind Jadis’ Hairstyle
Despite The Walking Dead poking fun at Jadis’ hairstyle, there is a deeper meaning behind it. Before joining the CRM, Jadis still had her longer, more natural hair. This can be spotted in episode 3’s flashback scene to when Rick and Jadis are in the Civic Republic, suggesting she didn’t change her hairstyle until after signing up for the CRM. Jadis’ new angular hairstyle indicates a loss of freedom, with it fitting a more military style, despite its ridiculous nature. It is possible that changing her haircut was a requirement to be allowed into the CRM.
Changing her hairstyle is symbolic of Jadis altering her entire personality. The Ones Who Live and World Beyond present Jadis as a threat who will mindlessly follow CRM instructions to ensure their security. This is a contrast between how she exited The Walking Dead and even the personality shown in episode 3’s flashback, which painted her as more sympathetic and relatable. While living in the junkyard and among Rick’s community, Jadis had true freedom. However, in The Ones Who Live, Jadis is little more than an obedient soldier who has lost her independence along with her superior haircut.
