Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan with Batman imagery

The characters played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan in the world of The Walking Dead may have a pretty complicated history, but the two were devoted lovers in another cinematic universe. They portrayed Thomas and Martha Wayne, the parents of Ben Affleck’s Batman, in the DCEU.

Released in 2016, Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice featured a flashback scene of Morgan and Cohan’s Waynes getting gunned down in front of a young Bruce. While Morgan and Cohan both would appear in other shows like Supernatural and The Walking Dead, it was their DCEU appearance that was the first time they had ever met. Speaking about the scene with Collider, the two shared their memories of briefly bringing the Waynes to life in Batman v Superman.

The first time we met was on that,” Morgan said. “I remember peppering Lauren [Cohan] with all sorts of questions because she had just started The Walking Dead the year before. We were also both on Supernatural. I had done Supernatural on the first season. She came in the second season. We never got to work together. We met in Chicago, shooting the Thomas and Martha Wayne scene, which was super cool.”

After Cohan noted that it was the “chilliest night of anybody’s life,” Morgan added, “That’s right. Zack [Snyder] was ahead of his time and was using the 3D cameras and two of them broke that night because it was so cold. They just shattered. So, the scene that we did is the only scene in that movie not shot with a 3D camera.”

That’s right because we were great in 2D after the fact,” Cohan further quipped. Morgan also shared that he believes they “re-shot the pearls rolling” after Martha’s necklace was ripped from her neck.

There’s Not As Much Love Between Negan and Maggie

These days, Morgan and Cohan are co-starring in The Walking Dead: Dead City, one of multiple spinoff shows keeping The Walking Dead alive after the main series ended. There’s no telling at this point how long the spinoff will keep going, but the actors seem open to continuing on as Negan and Maggie for some time to come. With that said, Morgan is just hoping that there won’t be a surprise cancelation.

“Hopefully we would know that the show was going to end,” he said. “I would hope that AMC would give us a heads-up. Then Eli [Jorne, the series creator] can write accordingly. Because it would suck if you found out that the show was done after we shot the season. It’s very open-ended.”

The Walking Dead: Dead City will return with Season 2 on AMC and AMC+ in 21025.
