The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will introduce new Walkers for its eagerly anticipated second season. Series creator David Zabel discussed the installment, premiering in September, alongside executive producer Greg Nicotero and stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi at the recently concluded 2024 San Diego Comic-Con.
Zabel told Collider about the introduction of new Walkers and their intent to “ratchet up” things for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2. “The other thing is that in Season 2, we keep ratcheting up how we’re switching up the world, specifically in terms of the different kinds of Walkers that we experienced in France,” he said. “We experienced what we call ‘Ampers,’ these amped-up Walkers, in Season 1. That gets ratcheted up several times in Season 2. Then there’s also, towards the end, a different kind of Walker that we’ve never seen before.“
Zabel is excited to introduce the new Walkers alongside franchise veteran Nicotero, who has vast experience with the genre. “That was pretty exciting to be able to do. I know it’s exciting for Greg because he’s done it a million times, and it’s exciting for me because I haven’t done it that many times,” Zabel said. “To come up with an idea for something that hasn’t been done before, that feels new and exciting and has a lot of stakes.“
Norman Reedus Reveals How Much Longer He Wants to Play Daryl Dixon
Reedus first played Daryl in the 2010 The Walking Dead, and the actor discussed how his 2023 spin-off, which expanded the universe to France, renewed his interest in playing the character by doing something completely different. The Walking Dead actor doesn’t mind playing Daryl for about six more years as long as they keep reinventing the franchise. “The Daryl Dixon spinoff has allowed me to take the show in a direction that’s different to the original show,’ he said in another recent interview.
“I didn’t want to make the same show again in a different location. I wanted to reinvent it. And they let me, with the other like-minded people involved, invent something new. So it feels fresh to me. It’s in a different language. It’s shot a different way. It’s not really about zombies, and who’s going to get bit this week. It’s completely different. So as long as I keep reinventing it, it’s fun,” Reedus continued.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 will premiere on September 29, 2024.
