With The Walking Dead revealing its triumphant end, fans have plenty of questions they hope the many upcoming spin-offs will answer. This includes the first to be released in April 2023, Walking Dead: Dead City starring Maggie and Negan.

The existence of many of these spin-offs confirmed that characters like Daryl, Negan, and Maggie would not die. But the ending of the original series that started it all still left fans wondering about the future of these characters, and others.

Will Daryl Intersect With Rick And Michonne?

Daryl Dixon carries Judith Grimes to safety in The Walking Dead season 11 episode 23 Family

The story in the series is that Daryl, who decided to continue to live like a nomad (something that sparks some of the unpopular opinions about Daryl on The Walking Dead), was tasked with going on a mission to discover more about the outbreak, why it happened, and presumably why the walkers seem to be evolving. He was likely also wanting to find Rick now that he knows he could be alive.

With both the Daryl and Rick characters starring in their own respective spin-offs, fans wonder if they might intersect somehow. With Daryl somehow en route to France, this might not happen. Nonetheless, fans are curious if he will ever get confirmation that his best friend did not perish.

How Does Daryl End Up In France?

One detail fans know about the upcoming spin-off, Daryl Dixon, is that it is set in France. Naturally, fans wonder how Daryl goes from riding off on his motorcycle in the finale in Atlanta, to being in an entirely different country. Fans of the franchise know from the short-lived spin-off Walking Dead: World Beyond that the outbreak began in France, which leaves them wondering if Maggie learns this somehow.

Mostly, though, fans are curious to learn how Daryl manages to get there and what mode of transportation he uses. Further, if Daryl discovers not only more about what caused the apocalypse but also why the walkers’ abilities are changing, will he ever return to the Commonwealth to report on the findings?

How Do Maggie And Negan Reunite?

In the finale, Maggie and Negan, who made some good decisions on The Walking Dead, have a heart-to-heart. He finally apologizes, and she genuinely accepts, but still can’t bring herself to forgive. But she admits he has earned his place, and she will tolerate living with him if he can understand why sometimes, she simply can’t look him in the eyes.

With the upcoming spin-off Walking Dead: Dead City, fans know the pair end up together again, and both in New York City. Fans want to know what drives them to leave Hilltop in the first place, and why they go to New York. Some speculation suggests it has something to do with locating their kidnaped or lost children.

Are Annie And The Baby Alive?

Negan’s wife Annie was not seen at all in the series finale. The last she was seen, her life was being threatened. But thanks to the quick thinking and courage of Ezekiel, she was saved. Negan is seen leaving the community while the group is enjoying a celebratory meal at Pamela’s old house, and he gifts Judith’s compass back to her with a touching letter.

There’s no word, however, on if Annie is with Negan at Hilltop, or wherever he resides. What’s more, fans don’t know if the baby is ever born, so it remains to be seen if Negan will be a father in the new series.

Is Pamela Still In Jail?

Pamela from The Walking Dead standing outside, looking angry.

The last fans saw of Pamela, she had been arrested by the newly appointed commander Mercer and thrown in jail. She expressed concern to Carol about how they would manage running a community better than she did. Who would do the jobs no one wants to do, she asked? How would you decide who gets the biggest house? All these questions pose issues she felt she dealt with the best way possible.

It’s presumed that Pamela – who led one of the top Walking Dead survivor communities – remains in jail. But the former Commonwealth leader’s status after the one-year time jump was not addressed, leaving fans to wonder about her long-term fate.

Will Rick And Michonne Ever Reunite With Judith And RJ?

The Walking Dead Rick And Judith Time Jump

Both Rick and Michonne had cameos in the final moments of the last episode. They were shown in separate places at separate times, both writing to Judith about their experiences, the people they loved and lost, and their desire to return. Rick, meanwhile, doesn’t yet known RJ exists.

With Daryl gone from the community, fans want to know if Judith and RJ will ever reunite with their parents. It will be interesting to see if these child characters are featured on the new show in any way.

Do Others Know About Rick?

Rick from The Walking Dead wearing a CRM jacket, standing by the water and looking behind him in the air.

Daryl learned from Judith while she was in and out of consciousness that Rick might still be alive, making him one of the longest-running surviving characters on The Walking Dead. This bit of information led Michonne to leave to look for him. It’s unclear, however, whether Daryl told the rest of the group or if he went off on his own to secretly search for him while completing his other investigative mission.

It’s unclear, as well, whether Judith told others. If she did, does this mean RJ knows there is a chance he could actually meet his biological father? What’s more, the other person who knows, Virgil, was most notably missing from the final episodes, so fans wonder what happened to him and if he will ever return and tell them the secret.

How Is The Commonwealth Being Run?

Mercer from The Walking Dead standing outside a truck with the door open, in full Commonwealth Army uniform.

Fans know from the final scene that Mercer has been leading the Commonwealth since Pamela’s arrest. He was doing so with the help of Ezekiel, eventually appointed governor, and Carol, who serves as director of operations.

The questions Pamela posed were valid ones and fans are curious how they got around them. While panning shots of the community hard at work suggest that everyone is happily willing to pitch in as necessary, there must be some discord that presents itself. Fans are interested to know what issues the Commonwealth ran into in its first year under new leadership and how were they solved.

What Happened To Oceanside?

One episode earlier in the season showed Hornsby flipping his signature coin in front of the people at Oceanside, leaving it to fate to decide if he was to kill all of them or let them live. But the story was never resolved. Oceanside might not have been one of the most powerful communities on The Walking Dead, but they were an important one that was able to survive and stay out of the conflict, for so long.

When Aaron and others ran into Luke and Jules, Luke told them the community was overrun and they escaped. But fans don’t learn anything more. Eugene talks to Rosita about going for a swim in Oceanside, but it’s never really confirmed if Oceanside still exists as a community or if it’s just an empty place by the water and Eugene has some wishful thinking that it’s still standing.

Do They Know About The CRM?

Gabriel Negan Walking dead CRM

One of the biggest questions The Walking Dead has yet to address is the existence of the Civic Republic Military (CRM). This group was introduced through Jadis when they airlifted Rick to safety. They are seen again in the spin-off Fear the Walking Dead when Althea meets and falls for the pilot Isabelle, who reveals information to her about them. The CRM is featured heavily in the short-lived spin-off Walking Dead: World Beyond.

Some fans speculate that “Destination Two,” where Connie was going to be sent, might be referencing the CRM, suggesting that Pamela might know about it and even be working with them. Hornsby also mentioned alliances he had made that would no longer exist if he was gone, which could also be alluding to the CRM. Fans still wonder about Destination Two and if it has anything to do with this military organization.
