“The only one I want to play is DC”: Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jason Momoa Have Been Aiming For the Same Badass DC Role But The Walking Dead Star Faces One Big Problem

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has locked his eyes in a DC role that has been orbiting around Jason Momoa.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has proved his prowess as one of the greatest The Walking Dead villains albeit turning into a soft character in the later seasons and his own solo spin-off venture with Lauren Cohan’s The Walking Dead: Dead City at AMC. But the actor is now aiming for a big DC role, one that even Jason Momoa is vying for.

Momoa, who played Aquaman in the DCEU, has set his eyes on a potential movie based on the interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, Lobo. And with recent comments from Morgan, he would very much like to play the same character as well. However, there might be one problem that would prevent him from playing the role.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Wants To Play Lobo In DC

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan in AMC’s The Walking Dead, made one of the most fierce and ruthless entrances in the sixteenth and final episode of the sixth season, Last Day on Earth of the post-apocalyptic horror television series. And with his portrayal of the villain, it is not too hard to see the actor carrying the essence of the DC character. The actor also shared his keen interest in playing The Last Czarnian.

“The only one I want to play is DC and Lobo. He’s bada*s. Marvel, I don’t know, everyone that’s in it is pretty good. I feel like all the greatest characters, they’re working,” Morgan recently said (via Comicbook.com).

The Supernatural actor also expressed his desire to play The Lord of Death previously in a chat with MovieWeb.

“Lobo would be very cool. I don’t think that I’m as big as Lobo is, but if you could transplant Mickey Rourke’s body on my head, that would be just great,” he said (via Comicbook.com).

But as Morgan himself acknowledged, let’s face it, the actor is not physically in his best shape to play Lobo at this point of his career. Morgan is now 58, and it would be too intense for him to play the role to transform into the desired shape. Also, with Jason Momoa in the potential card for the character, Morgan’s chances are pretty slim.

After his DCEU tenure as Aquaman, Momoa’s Aquaman is seemingly over after the sequel bombed at the box office. Also, as James Gunn is revamping the DC Universe, the old Aquaman might follow the same dismissal as Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman. But in a chat with ScreenRant, the actor reflected on the customization of his potential Lobo role.

“What’s Lobo got? He’s got the great chain with the sickle on it, right? He’s got the chain and the hook? Obviously, we’re going to have to do stuff like that. But I’d throw in some kind of custom piece. I got to think about it, that’s a good question. I would have to think about what I would make.”

Momoa has been heavily rumored to play Lobo with the claim that he ditched the Aquaman role for this one. Of course, scrapping a new Aquaman has always been the result of the reception of the movie, but James Gunn’s DC partner Peter Safran was not in line of letting Mamoa go, like Cavill and Affleck.

Ahead of the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, DC co-boss said that he was hopeful for the continuation of Momoa’s tenure in the studio. However, even if Aquaman meets the cinematic end, Safran said, “I know that Jason will always have a home at DC.” Safran’s comment kept Momoa even closer to the role in a future movie on the character.
