Ryan Gosling has been nominated for an Emmy Award for the first time in his career, following his hilarious appearance on Saturday Night Live earlier this year
Ryan Gosling in the Beavis and Butt-Head skit
Ryan Gosling has clinched an Emmy Award nomination, but not for his cinematic roles – instead, he’s in the running for an award following a Saturday Night Live cameo that left viewers in hysterics.
After nailing a performance as Beavis from the iconic Beavis and Butt-Head in an SNL sketch this April, 43-year-old Gosling is vying for the title of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series at the prestigious Emmys. The competition is stiff with Jon Bernthal, Matthew Broderick, Christopher Lloyd, Bob Odenkirk, and Will Poulter also on the nominee list.
The memorable skit was part of SNL’s 49th season, stirring buzz among fans and cementing the episode as one to remember. Ryan’s agenda for appearing on SNL was originally to promote his new project, The Fall Guy, co-starring Emily Blunt.
During a particularly amusing sketch from the episode, Gosling humorously bid adieu to his role as Ken, likening it to ending a relationship. He then performed a rendition of Taylor Swift’s famed break up ballad, All Too Well.
To everyone’s surprise, actress Emily Blunt, age 41, interrupted Ryan’s number to mock him for not plugging The Fall Guy, only to eventually join the actor in finishing the song as a duet. Taylor Swift herself tipped her hat to the pair, taking to X and commenting: “All Too Well (Ryan and Emily’s Version)! Watch me accidentally catch myself singing this version on tour. This monologue is EVERYTHING,” reports OK!.
Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day dressed as Beavis and Butt-Head attend the Los Angeles Premiere of The Fall Guy
Ryan and SNL star Mikey Day teamed up to impersonate Beavis and Butt-Head. They performed a skit where they attend a dull talk show about artificial intelligence.
Their costumes had the audience and fellow actors in fits of laughter. After the sketch’s success, Ryan and Mikey appeared as Beavis and Butt-Head on the red carpet at The Fall Guy premiere weeks later.
Ryan Gosling is in the running for the first Emmy of his career
Throughout his acting career, Ryan has bagged a Golden Globe Award and has been nominated for three Academy Awards and two British Academy Film Awards. He’s been up for awards at the Golden Globes six times and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
In total, he’s received 107 nominations since his rise to fame as a teenager, winning 40 awards overall.
His performances in films like Barbie, La La Land, Lars and the Real Girl (2007), Blue Valentine (2010), The Ides of March, and Crazy, Stupid, Love have all earned him award nominations.
