Skybound Entertainment, the company responsible for the games in The Walking Dead and Invincible franchises, is aiming to expand its IP (intellectual property) across multiple platforms, from gaming to TV shows and movies – and two of its top representatives will be speakers in a keynote at Gamescom Latam 2024. Founded in 2010 by Robert Kirkman and David Alpert, Skybound is the company responsible for the comic series The Walking Dead and has been involved with many of the franchise’s adaptations.
Now, the company is set to expand its IP through multiple platforms over the next few years. In fact, both the CEO, David Alpert, and Skybound’s co-chairman, Jon Goldman, are addressing a keynote during Gamescom Latam 2024 to talk about the company’s future while creating intertwined universes of entertainment. The idea is to present how Skybound will seamlessly navigate through different platforms and tell larger and interconnected stories, including those in the Invincible and The Walking Dead franchises. Their keynote will occur on June 28 at 9:35 am ET at Gamescom Latam.
Skybound Seeks To Expand Its Business Into Brazil With Gamescom Latam 2024
Company Noticed A Shift In Its Audience’s Attention Toward Non-American Content
Custom Image by Yailin ChaconSkybound’s David Alpert and Jon Goldman spoke with Screen Rant about their visit to Brazil for Gamescom Latam in late June. According to Alpert, “For years, we’ve had massive fans reaching out to us from Brazil about our properties, about The Walking Dead, Invincible. […] and we want to be in business with Brazil, right? So, we want to be in business with video game creators, screenwriters, television and film production companies.” The main idea is to expand the company’s business into what they perceive as the next big cultural polo.
“ We’ve tried to organize our company unlike others, where we do all these things natively and internally. ”
“We actually live in this unique period where the incredibly important market in the U.S. is now watching subtitled foreign content. So, it can have global consequences in a way that was never possible before,” says Goldman. Brazil is part of those plans. Skybound has already expanded its business operation into the Nordics, Japan, and Spain, for instance, looking for powerful cultural markets with international potential and help them break ground.
Alpert and Goldman’s keynote at Gamescom Latam is set to present the company to Brazilian audiences and learn more about the regional market and behavior. While the two representatives for Skybound will indeed try to establish a closer relationship with Brazil, its audiences, and its creators, Alpert and Goldman are also going to tackle the current state of media, in which certain IPs traverse across platforms.
The executives are set to talk about the difficulties of adapting certain IPs and how the current global market perceives these interconnected universes. “Like they want it all to be good. And we’ve tried to organize our company unlike others, where we do all these things natively and internally, as opposed to we’re a video game company and we’ve licensed out the movie rights to somebody else. Like we do it all ourselves and they all stand alone,” explains Goldman.
Gamescom Latam will happen from June 26 to June 30 in São Paulo, Brazil. The keynote that Alpert and Goldman will be addressing is scheduled for June 28 at 10:35 am BRT, on the Journey 2 Stage, offering attendees an opportunity to glean insights from two of the main names within Skybound Entertainment, the company responsible for The Walking Dead.
