There’s still some time to catch it.
Science fiction is another extremely beloved genre when it comes to movies and TV shows. And over the years it seems like all the topics have been covered in them, but when yet another film is released we are surprised with a completely new story at the center of it.
Of course, some movies, like it always happens, fly under the radar, but many turn into huge successes and become staples of the genre, like it happened with Ridley Scott ’s Blade Runner.
The movie premiered in 1982 and featured Harrison Ford as a titular character named Rick Deckard, a former blade runner on a mission to stop four “Replicants” who escaped and are determined to go back to Earth to become legal again or even seek revenge.
The movie was a hit and everybody assumed there would be a sequel someday, but it only happened in 2017 when Denis Villeneuve decided to give it a shot and created Blade Runner 2049.
The sequel also features Harrison Ford, but the main protagonist is played by Ryan Gosling, who has the role of a new type of Replicant named K, who must defeat the Replicants in hiding 30 years after the original movie. But to do that, he has to find Deckard and team up with him. Because there’s no way he can do it alone.
“It was heartbreaking watching K live this depressing life of submission and killing his own kind followed by his rise into thinking he is a real boy followed by his understanding of oppression in society and then his righteous sacrifice. His character arc is perfect,” Redditor veggiepilot said.
The movie is available to stream on Apple TV+, but hurry up, because it leaves the platform on June 30.
