While there were plenty of celebrity cameos on Gilmore Girls you totally forgot about, there’s one mega-celeb that didn’t quite make the cut: Ryan. F-ing. Gosling. Yep, you read that right. Even though Ryan Gosling auditioned for a small role on the series, casting director Jami Rudofsky revealed during a Gilmore Girls Fan Festival that the reason we never saw The Fall Guy star on the series is because he did the unthinkable: he came in and totally flopped on his audition!

We know what you’re thinking: impossible, right? How could the guy who nabbed Oscar noms for La La Land and Barbie bomb on GG? Well, according to Jami (who, after being unimpressed with his tardiness and hair color on a previous audition was blown away by his “amazing” acting chops), he came in and just… “fell flat.”
OMFG! Our hearts are literally breaking with the thought of what might have been. Can you even imagine the “Hey Gilmore Girl” spoofs that might have ensued? This is almost too much for us to bear.

Though Jami insinuates Ryan Gosling’s Gilmore Girls role probably wouldn’t have become Rory’s “one that got away” (considering the audition was for a smaller role as a football player), we can’t help but wonder… what if? WHAT IF?! He might not have changed our minds on being Team Jess and Team Logan, but this is one cameo we’ll forever mourn. After all, Ryan definitely would have fit right in with the rest of the kids at Stars Hollow high.
Jami, for her part, regrets the oversight, calling him her own “one that got away.” And as for Ryan? We think he’s probably doing just fine, in spite of it all.
