Norman Reedus stands bloody and battered, gazing around as if stunned at the rubble, in a scene from The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1

Norman Reedus seemingly confirms that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 is happening (though he possibly wasn’t supposed to). Daryl’s solo adventure within the TWD universe began in 2023 with season 1, which sent the motorcycle-riding, zombie-killing loner all the way to the shores of France, where he stumbled upon a new group of friends, and a new mission. Season 2 will bring back old friends, as promised by its official title The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, with season 3 to follow.

But AMC’s commitment to the further adventures of Daryl (and perhaps Carol) may go even further, as Reedus seemingly just confirmed that season 4 will happen too. AMC might not be too happy with Reedus letting the news slip, as in a recent interview, he haltingly mentioned future filming plans for the show. Check out his remarks below (via Radio Times):

We’re about to start seasons 3 and possibly 4 in Spain. I think I’m allowed to say that. I don’t know. I just said it. But I think we’re going to Spain, to Madrid, for that.

Expanding the TWD universe by sending Daryl to Europe proved a good move for the franchise, as the location change breathed new life into what had become a somewhat stale property. Given how successful Daryl Dixon season 1 proved to be, it’s only natural that Daryl’s adventures on the other side of the Atlantic would continue. Carol joining the fun in season 2 sets up a huge reunion between two fan-favorite characters, giving viewers even more reason to stick with TWD long after the flagship show’s finale.

What might happen after Daryl Dixon season 2 remains to be seen, but thoughts of a possible Daryl and Carol return to the USA seemingly went by the wayside when Reedus confirmed that season 3 would be filming in Spain. Any TWD fans looking forward to Daryl and Carol getting back to America, and reuniting with Rick, Michonne, Maggie and company might be disappointed to learn that Daryl’s spinoff could continue through season 4, with filming still happening across the pond.

Daryl Dixon ‘s main filming location switches to Spain for season 3, after 2 seasons spent in France.

It’s possible that future TWD universe plans still involve a big reunion between all the main characters, and even a delayed Walking Dead season 12 proper. But that seemingly won’t happen until The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has two more seasons in the can beyond the upcoming season 2. For now, it seems AMC is content to let Daryl and Carol lead the TWD universe, along with Maggie and Negan in Dead City, with a full-blown reunion series on the backburner, or maybe off the table entirely.
