The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon showrunner David Zabel has teased potential ideas for the location of season 4, indicating whether Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) would be staying in Spain. Daryl Dixon season 2 is bringing the duo’s adventure in France to a close, with the pair currently trying to get Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) back to America. Season 3 has already been confirmed, with the leading pair heading to Spain for another adventure, seemingly as they continue trying to get back to America.
Speaking with Collider, Zabel explained how conversations surrounding the location of Daryl Dixon season 4 are ongoing, and that it’s possible the story could continue in Spain. However, there’s no definitive decision just yet, with the showrunner teasing the series could move to a new location instead. He said the current focus right now is filming the six episodes of season 3 in Spain, before moving on to wherever the show will go next. Check out what Zabel had to say below:
Those are things we’re talking about and thinking about. They’re definitely considerations, and there are various versions of that. We could do some more in Spain, or we could move on to another place potentially. I do love the way that we get to reinvent the show when we move from place to place. I think it’s a great way to keep it fresh and to give new stimuli to these characters who have seen and done so much. There are all kinds of conversations about what a Season 4 might look like, and what are some other places the show could go. But we also love being in Spain, and there’s a lot of story to tell in Spain. Right now, we’re just making six in Spain.
What David Zabel’s Season 4 Location Tease Means For Daryl Dixon Season 4
Norman Reedus Seemingly Confirmed Season 4 Earlier This Year
In June 2024, Reedus seemingly confirmed Daryl Dixon season 4, saying he believed some of it might be filmed in Spain alongside season 3. However, Zabel’s statement indicates this might not be the case, with the current focus being on Daryl Dixon season 3 having a complete story in Spain. While it’s unclear what the story will consist of, plenty of new characters will appear, with some stars including Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, Alexandra Masangkay, Candela Saitta, Hugo Arbués, and Stephen Merchant. This indicates a clean slate for the story as Daryl and Carol’s journey home continues.
If season 4 does get announced, it sounds like the show could move locations, with Zabel potentially already having a complete story mapped out for Daryl Dixon‘s characters in Spain. If the show’s new storyline is meant to be completed over the course of six episodes, then it would make sense for a possible season 4 to bring the duo somewhere else instead of stretching the story out. However, with the pair already teased to be making a pit stop before Spain, it could offer insight into what future plans might be.
Our Take On Where Daryl Dixon Season 4 Could Be Located
The Show Could Become A World Tour For Daryl & Carol
Since Zabel seemingly has the storyline for season 3 already locked in, it sounds like Daryl Dixon season 4 could potentially reveal a new location for the duo to travel to. Reedus has ideas for season 4 that include Costa Rica and Japan, something that, if considered, could result in a world tour for Daryl and Carol. While the pair are currently trying to get back home, the ripeness of them going on new adventures means the show could become almost an anthology series, with the duo heading to a new country every time.
Daryl Dixon season 2, episode 6, “Au Revoir les Enfants,” airs on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, November 3.
