Liam Payne was set to appear in a Netflix talent show called Building The Band, but his shock death in October has cast doubt over the series’ future
The recent passing of Liam Payne, a beloved member of One Direction, sent shockwaves across the music industry when he tragically fell from a hotel balcony in Argentina in October at age 31.
The star had taken part in a Netflix series titled Building The Band as part of an extraordinary team of judges aimed at discovering fresh vocalists, filming his contribution to the show in Manchester during the summer months. Following his unforeseen death, the series faced uncertainty regarding its release.
However, rumors have emerged indicating that the show’s creators are keen on getting approval from Liam’s family to showcase his final screen performance. Their goal is to debut the talent-finding series by 2025 on the streaming platform while respecting the wishes of the singer’s loved ones.
Alongside Liam, the show featured Nicole Scherzinger, 46, of Pussycat Dolls fame, and Kelly Rowland, 43, from Destiny’s Child, together setting out on a quest to form “the next great music group” from among fifty candidates.
The Strip That Down singer was part of the show, offering his expertise to assist the judges in scouting for talent, alongside Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean who also joined as a host. An insider revealed to The Sun: “Netflix and the production company will meet Liam’s family to make sure they are happy with Building the Band airing in 2025.”
“Nothing will be finalized until they have given their blessing. Those who worked on it say it captures Liam in a beautiful light and highlights his passion for helping others. It is the last thing he worked on and he comes across so well,” reports the Mirror.
Earlier this year, Netflix unveiled the show with a description stating: “What will happen when the bands finally meet, and looks, choreography, and style come into play? With incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal – to find the next great music band – the stage is set for an unforgettable experience.”
The creators of the show touted it as “a truly unique competition show where building the perfect band is all about chemistry. The singers are in complete control as they seek to form their very own bands in individual ‘booths’ without ever seeing each other. All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit.”
