If you love AMC series The Walking Dead, chances are you’re into post-apocalyptic horror and the whole concept of the zombie apocalypse. And while you might just want to curl up on the couch and watch the series and its spin-off Fear The Walking Dead (along with additional upcoming projects), you might also want to share this love with others.
A great way to do this is through board games. And, if you’re into the series, you might like this selection of options, all of which would be perfect for a Walking Dead-themed game night.
1. USAOPOLY AMC The Walking Dead Clue Game
This is a version of the classic mystery game Clue, except with a Walking Dead twist. Set in the fictional town of Alexandria, one of the many spots the characters settle in during the show, the idea is to combat an attack on the homeland, as someone killed the guards and let in a stream of walkers.
You can play as characters like Rick, Carol, Negan, and Daryl to discover who is the guilty party. Weapon options include a katana, revolver, and, of course, Negan’s trusty barb-wire bat, Lucille.
2. USAOPOLY AMC The Walking Dead Trivial Pursuit Game
Test your knowledge of the series with this trivia-based game, which includes questions relating to seasons 1 through 7. There are 600 questions in all that will reveal who truly, among your friends and family, is the real fan.
Questions center around specific characters, locations, events, and even episodes, so you really need to know your stuff if you want to win. You need a minimum of two players, but there’s no player limit, so it’s a great game for big viewing parties.
3. The Walking Dead Risk: Survival Edition
The idea behind the popular game Risk is that you must fight to take over a specific geographic territory, or the entire world. So this is the perfect premise for a Walking Dead theme, except this board features a new map of the southeast region of the U.S.
As you move about the board, you must fight off attacks from other survivors to claim territory and gain vital resources while also steering clear of walkers. It’s ideal for 3-5 players aged 13+ and comes with a deck of Supply Cards.
4. Tactic Games US Zombie Labyrinth Board Game
Featuring a general zombie theme, this game sees players move around the board attempting to collect brain points.
Designed like a puzzle that can be rotated in any direction for playing differently every time, games will only take about 15 minutes. Still, it’s loads of fun to play as a zombie who’s trying to feast on human brains, avoiding the mad scientist who will send you back to the starting point. Brain discs are face down, so only you know how many you have.
5. Smirk & Dagger Zombies Board Game Student Bodies
This strategy game for 2-5 players starts with each player having been bitten at one end of a school hallway. They must work their way to the other end in order to locate the antidote in the science lab. Once cured, they must make their way back to the start, fighting off undead classmates along the way, including other players who haven’t yet been cured.
Once the first person escapes successfully, the door is locked and they win! But don’t eliminate someone too early or they’ll be coming for you.
6. Plaid Hat Games Dead of Winter: The Long Night
Get a good hour or two out of this game that serves as a standalone expansion to Dead of Winter. The idea is to try and contain horrible experiments before they infect society. Members of other colonies will try to invade your space while you explore pharmaceutical locations to locate powerful items that can help you in the game.
Try to upgrade your colony and emerge victorious. Survivors and cards from the original set can also be used with this game to make it even more complex.
7. Flying Frog Last Night On Earth : The Zombie Game
This modular game board allow players to either act as heroes trying to survive a zombie attack or the zombies themselves, looking to take over the land. Lasting for about 60-90 minutes for 2-6 players, you can choose from eight different hero pieces and different scenarios for a fresh game experience every time.
The game is designed to feel almost like a movie as you play and you can alter the story based on how you put together the board and which side you want to be on
8. Gravwell: Escape from the 9th Dimension Board Game
This award-winning game actually takes place in space, where players must mine for valuable resources while trying to avoid a powerful black hole. The ship is drawn to others, not necessarily in the typical way gravity works, so you must try and avoid crashing as they move both forwards and backwards.
It’s easy to learn as you play cards to avoid wasting resources and is quick, lasting only 20-35 minutes. Ideal for kids aged 12 and older and for up to 4 players (you can play solo, too).
9. Zombicide Base Game
You’ll love the adorable mini zombie pieces in this game, along with the six detailed survivor figures. In every game, you must combat 10 different scenarios, working together to try and survive. The map tiles are modular, so you can have a unique gaming experience every time.
You have the option of playing the beginning board for a quick 20-minute game or use the expert board for a full three-hour game session. It’s a great cooperative game for the whole family or group of friends.
10. Grey Fox Games Deception: Murder in Hong Kong Board Game
Set in Hong Kong, players of this murder mystery game must figure out which among them is the murderer. One person plays as the forensic scientist who analyzes the scene and the others are investigators who try to interpret clues. As investigators work together to solve the crime, the murderer works to mislead and confuse them.
With the ability to play with up to 12 people (or as few as 4), it includes more than 250 cards – so you can play it again and again.
