Former One Direction singer Liam Payne tragically died in October at the age of 31 and before his untimely passing, he reportedly planned to release a song about his ex-girlfriend Naomi Campbell
Liam Payne, the former One Direction heartthrob who tragically passed away at 31 in October after falling from the third floor of a hotel, had plans to express his enduring affection for Naomi Campbell, whom he considered “the one that got away.”
An autopsy revealed that Liam suffered “multiple traumatic injuries” leading to “internal and external haemorrhage” which caused his instant death. Before his untimely demise, the late singer intended to delve into his past romance with the iconic supermodel, which lasted a few months in 2019, a relationship they both kept under wraps.
It’s rumored that Liam was secretly working on a song titled “Closer to You” post-breakup, a track where he subtly nods to Naomi’s perfume, leaving a lasting scent. The song, recorded last year, was believed by Liam to be a potential chart-topper, following his solo hits like “Strip That Down” and “Bedroom Floor.”
Naomi is reportedly aware of the heartfelt track, which Liam was “extremely proud” of. A source confided to the Mail on Sunday: “Liam and Naomi dated for three or four months and, like all things with Liam, he took it very seriously. He was an emotional guy, they didn’t have a big bust-up, it was more that they realised their relationship couldn’t last long-term because they were both juggling careers and traveling a lot.”

The leaked lyrics from Liam’s unreleased song reveal his yearning to “get closer” to the legendary figure, with touching lines like: “I want to love you,” and “Still smell your perfume in my room…” Reportedly, Liam laid down the track’s vocals back in July at an LA studio, which tragically turned out to be a mere three months before he passed away. According to reports, the song was part of evidence submitted to a Buenos Aires court, included in a hefty 91-page file made up of over 400 items, by lawyers for Roger Nores, a buddy of Liam’s.
Word has it that Nores, along with Liam’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had a hand in writing the song’s lyrics. It’s believed that Rami Yacoub, who wrote One Direction’s debut hit, What Makes You Beautiful was one of the masterminds behind the track, which was also worked on by Grammy Award-winning producer Max Martin.
