Khloe Kardashian Reveals the best Beauty secret that she received from Kim and Kylie

If there’s one thing I can tell you about what it’s like to speak to Khloé Kardashian, it’s that it feels… strangely familiar. “We’re about to do interviews for our Kardashian show so I’m here at one of our studios,” she tells me on Zoom while dialling in from sunny Calabasas, California.

Her hair is long and effortlessly wavy. Her skin is bronzed and her makeup tied together with a soft matte nude lip, and she’s wearing a sultry false lash, which she reveals is from her newly-announced collection with Tatti Lashes. Sitting just the way she does during the show’s confessionals, her warm, chatty and inviting energy nearly made me forget that I was speaking to one of the biggest reality stars in Hollywood.

Apart from starring in The Kardashians, Keeping Up With The Kardashians (as well as the show’s multiple spin-offs), Khloé has also paved the way for body inclusivity in the fashion industry, having founded Good American – a brand that offers one of the widest size ranges in denim to date.

Her latest venture? False eyelashes, having collaborated with Tatti Lashes to bring out her own collection of falsies, including everything from wearable strip lashes, natural-looking individual clusters, a handy curved lash applicator and even a rose-oil-infused lash remover.

“I don’t think I started wearing false lashes until I started doing the show when I was 22,” she tells me. “I’m half Armenian, so I do have really great natural lashes. But there’s just nothing like false lashes and the confidence that they give you.”

“It’s fun to play a different character of yourself and switch up looks,” she adds. “Some wardrobe looks or glam makeup looks require either a sultry lash or a foxy lash or maybe a really over-the-top dramatic lash.”

Khloé tells me that she considers herself “more of a glam girl”, so her love for false lashes is understandable. “I love playing with makeup, I love exploring things,” she says.

And although she admits that her current makeup aesthetic hasn’t been as playful and colourful as it was before, she still recalls her previous looks with a smile. “Back in the day, I would do turquoise eyeshadows, I would put stars on my face, I would do jewels before Euphoria was a thing, and I would play around with hot pink lips (or peach and red). I played with so much colour and vibrancy.”

As she looks back on her beauty journey, Khloé says that she often turns to her sisters for tips and tricks on all things makeup and skincare – beauty advice that she swears by to this day. “I get a lot of beauty advice from Kim and Kylie. They are so knowledgeable in the beauty world. And what I love most is that they’re not gatekeepers,” she says.

“I have very oily skin and no one else in my family really does,” she continues. “So, my T-zone and the area around my nose will be constantly shiny. Kylie has always given me so many tips and advice like ‘don’t use so many cream foundations’ or ‘use more powders or blotting papers instead’. They could be the smallest tips, but they’ve always worked.”

That said, Khloé points out that she often looks to Kim for a steer on her skincare regimen. “She’s the one that taught me about hyaluronic acid and how great that is for you.”

According to Khloé, Kim regularly gives her advice on “things that you wouldn’t really think of”, such as never neglecting the neck and ears when applying skincare and being mindful of your sleeping positions. “If you’re side-sleeping, you’re always [laying] on one side of your face. So, of course, that side of your face is going to be flatter than the other”.

Speaking of skincare: to my surprise, Khloé prefers to keep her skincare routine “somewhat simple,” preferring a four-step routine rather than anything too elaborate.

“I use a lot of SkinCeuticals and Jan Marini products,” she says, heaping praise on the Jan Marini Bioglycolic Oily Skin Face Cleanser (which she often uses in the evening) and the SkinCeuticals Simply Clean Gel Cleanser, which she tends to reach for in the morning, followed by a face serum and a moisturiser.

As the last step of her skincare routine, sunscreen is the one non-negotiable part of Khloé’s daily beauty ritual. “I am a sunscreen lover. I wear it every day, which I don’t think a lot of people do. They’re always like: ‘It’s winter, why are you wearing sunscreen,’ and I’m like ‘Okay, the sun is still around.’ I always apply it, even on my hands, and I’ve been known to have very youthful-looking hands.”

Khloé was diagnosed with a melanoma on her back when she was just 19 years old, which needed to be removed via surgery. Melanoma is one of the most common types of skin cancer, which, according to Cancer Research UK, affects nearly 16,700 people a year in the UK.

“The first time I had skin cancer, it was such a shock to me”, she says. “You’re young and you don’t really take care of yourself that well. You’re just like: ‘Oh, you’re invincible, you’re 19.’”

Khloé admits that in the years that followed, she’s become more diligent when it comes to sun protection. “I stick with my sunscreen and I like to wear hats when I’m outside, and just being cognisant of the fact that just because you’re not laying out doesn’t mean you’re not getting sun exposure.”

Fans of The Kardashians will also know about Khloé’s second melanoma diagnosis, as the star has previously shared this on the third season of the show, which premiered earlier last year.

Having to undergo another surgical procedure to remove the tumour on her face, Khloé tells me: “Before, I don’t think I paid attention to how often I reapplied [sunscreen]. I thought: ‘Oh, I did it in the morning, I’m totally fine.’ So, now I’m way more annoying about reapplying, whereas before, it was just a ‘one-and-done’ thing.” She also admits to getting head-to-toe checks at her dermatologist every three months.

Given her candid approach to her experience of skin cancer, it’s perhaps not surprising that Khloé refuses to let it hold her back: “It’s not going to stop me from living my life and being with my kids.”
