Since The Walking Dead ended in 2022, the story has continued through a variety of spinoffs, but only one of the franchise’s original characters doesn’t have their own show, which needs to change. While the zombie series has experienced numerous highs and lows over the years, the recent spinoffs haven’t disappointed, with The Ones Who LiveDaryl Dixon, and Dead City all performing positively. They are easily among The Walking Dead‘s best spinoffs as each show has an interesting premise and utilizes fan-favorite characters, providing a much-needed fresh feel to the franchise after years of the same old formula.

While the majority of The Walking Dead‘s longest-surviving characters feature in these modern spinoffs, one original character is notably absent. Given the franchise clearly focused on some of its most popular characters, it’s understandable why a later addition like Negan would be involved in one of the newer shows, especially given how he fits into the story, but it still doesn’t explain the exclusion of one long-term survivor. Alongside being one of the first characters introduced into the show, they are also incredibly complex and fleshed out, meaning this forgotten star deserves a chance to shine in their own series.

The Book Of Carol Means Morgan Is The Only Walking Dead Season 1 Survivor Without His Own Spinoff

Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol has officially seen Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier join the show as a permanent cast member, meaning Morgan is the only surviving season 1 character not to have his own spinoff. Although he featured heavily in Fear The Walking Dead‘s later seasons, he wasn’t the focal point of the series, unlike the new spinoffs which put the spotlight on its protagonists. Rick, Carol, and Daryl are the only other significant characters from season 1 still alive in the franchise, and they all have major roles in The Walking Dead‘s latest projects.

Morgan hasn’t been seen since Fear The Walking Dead season 8’s midseason finale, and there are currently no indications that he will get his own series, which feels like a huge missed opportunity.

In addition, Maggie and Michonne debuted in season 2 and are also central characters in their spinoffs, confirming that all the classic survivors except Morgan have been given a recent spotlight. It seemed possible that Morgan might appear in Rick and Michonne’s Walking Dead spinoff, especially as there were a few Easter Eggs and references to the character, but it wasn’t to be. Instead, he hasn’t been seen since Fear The Walking Dead season 8’s midseason finale, and there are currently no indications that he will get his own series, which feels like a huge missed opportunity.

The Walking Dead Already Set Up Morgan’s Spinoff Story

Morgan Finding Rick Would Be A Perfect Limited Series

Morgan’s final moments in Fear The Walking Dead already set up his spinoff story, as he left the show’s central characters with his daughter to go find Rick. After Rick woke up from his coma in season 1, Morgan was the first survivor he encountered, and the two have crossed paths again numerous times over the following decade. Although they haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, they remained close allies while a part of Alexandria, but it has been a long time in The Walking Dead universe since they last saw each other, making a reunion Morgan’s ultimate goal.

Fear The Walking Dead allowed the character to find a new purpose and with his adopted daughter alongside him, settling down alongside his former allies seems like a strong way to finish his arc. However, while The Walking Dead has teased Morgan’s return, it hasn’t shown the survivor achieving his main objective, making his story somewhat incomplete. Therefore, a spinoff following him and Mo traveling across Georgia to find Alexandria could make for a great limited series, as it would flesh out Morgan and his daughter’s relationship while potentially setting up something bigger for the franchise.

Rumors about a Walking Dead crossover have circulated ever since the show started pursuing spinoffs rather than a season 12, and a solo Morgan show could set this up. Although watching Morgan and Mo attempt to find Alexandria and potentially even the Commonwealth would be interesting, the premise needs more to make it truly exciting. Alongside meeting other allies, the duo would potentially have to face off against a new antagonist, who could become The Walking Dead‘s next main villain. The spinoff may only tease how dangerous this new threat is, allowing the crossover to show the character’s full potential.

Morgan’s series would likely end with him and his daughter back in Alexandria or the Commonwealth. While this could set up a wholesome reunion with the main group, and more importantly, Rick, it may also allow him to warn them about this new villain. Therefore, with all the main characters back together other than Carol and Daryl, a crossover would well and truly be on the cards, meaning Morgan’s proposed spinoff could set up an extremely exciting future for The Walking Dead franchise.
