Fear the Walking Dead is bringing back its most interesting character in season 3

ABC

Mercedes Masohn has revealed that one important scene was cut from the midseason finale of Fear the Walking Dead.

The actress, who plays Ofelia Salazar in the AMC series, returned to screens for the first time this season during last night’s double bill, which revealed Ofelia had been taken in by Walker and the Black Hat Reservation after Jeremiah Otto left her out in the desert to die at the end of season 2.

Speaking about the scene in particular where Jeremiah leaves her in the desert, Masohn revealed an important part of dialogue was removed from the final cut recapping their interaction when it aired last night, much to her disappointment.

In the upsetting deleted footage, Masohn revealed the racist ranch owner implies woman of colour are only good for one thing.

“So, Jeremiah was the one who left Ofelia in the desert to die and there’s a bit that they cut out that I’m actually pretty upset with them for cutting out,” Mason told ComicBook.com.

“There’s a bit where Ofelia asks him for a ride and Jeremiah says, ‘No. I don’t think your kind would be accepted.’

“And she goes, ‘What do you mean, my kind?’ And he goes, ‘Brown people.’ And he continues on to say, ‘All I would be able to use you for is a comfort girl.’

“That’s why she spit at his foot. I don’t know why they cut that because that really shows what kind of person Jeremiah Otto is.

“He’s definitely not the grandpa type.”

Indeed, taking to Twitter after the episode aired, the actress cleared things up with one fan who debated how evil Jeremiah was after he was later shown giving Ofelia water.

“They cut the part where he tells Ofelia all he’d use her for is as a ‘comfort girl’,” she said.
