Heartbreaking Parallels Between Scarlet Witch and Billy Maximoff Will Leave You in Tears!

Joe Locke's Wiccan in Agatha All Along and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Joe Locke’s Wiccan are more similar than they seemed at first during Agatha All Along, as evidenced by a bittersweet fan-made MCU footage compilation. Marvel Studios has adapted Wanda Maximoff’s complex comic book history in the MCU’s timeline, creating an MCU Scarlet Witch journey that encompasses her time as an Avengers enemy, an official Avenger, a novice witch, an unintentional criminal, and a full-fledged supervillain. Likewise, the MCU incorporated Wiccan’s tricky origin story from the comics into Phase 5, setting up Speed’s return and the Young Avengers’ introduction along the way.

On Tumblr, user billykcplan shares an extensive comparison between similar shots featuring Scarlet Witch and Wiccan. Several Agatha All Along scenes featuring Joe Locke’s Billy Maximoff have several similarities with Scarlet Witch scenes from Avengers: Age of UltronWandaVision, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. These similarities include magic spells, key moments like Wanda and Billy’s transformation into Scarlet Witch and Wiccan, and lines as exact as “I don’t know how I did it”. Check out the post below:

What Scarlet Witch And Billy Maximoff’s Cinematic Parallels Mean

Wiccan and Scarlet Witch’s MCU Connections May Not End In Agatha All Along

The large number of similarities between Wanda Maximoff and Billy Maximoff suggest that within the MCU, Billy’s resurrection and transformation into Wiccan was a matter of fate. This idea is supported by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ Wiccan easter egg: At Wundagore Mountain, a sculpture inside the Scarlet Witch temple depicted a young boy wearing a hood and a headband. Although Billy had very limited recollection of his previous life, many memories of Wanda may have remained in his unconscious mind or his soul.

Billy Maximoff’s MCU story is only beginning by Agatha All Along‘s finale. Since Billy was able to defy death and bring his twin brother Tommy back along with him, he and Agatha Harkness could find a way to bring Wanda back to life. After all, the Scarlet Witch is supposed to be the most powerful witch ever, and Agatha also managed to come back from the dead, albeit in the form of a ghost. In a new parallel, Billy could do the same thing Wanda did for Vision and use his magic to bring Wanda back, though such a feat may require some sort of sacrifice.

Wiccan and Scarlet Witch’s cinematic parallels add an extra layer of meaning to their respective narratives. No single, standalone movie or show could have done Wanda and Billy’s tragic story justice the same way the highly interconnected MCU does. While the MCU can go overboard with easter eggs and set-ups sometimes, the MCU’s more subtle references are the foundation of its interconnectivity. Details like Wanda and Billy’s similar poses, lines, and magic spells are a valuable reward for fans who watch and rewatch every MCU installment, from action-packed sci-fi movies like Avengers: Age of Ultron to supernatural fantasy series like Agatha All Along.
