The Last Of Us Season 2 has an entire fandom waiting for it and turns out we now finally have a release window to hook our hopes to.

The Last Of Us 2: Pedro Pascal show’s 2025 release window confirmed by HBO boss - Find out

The world is not prepared for the storm that Max (HBO Max) has been cooking up, as this week, they confidently announced their upcoming slate. While everything DCU made waves, one of the non-DCU IPs that stood out, aside from Dune: Prophecy, was The Last of Us Season 2. Led by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, the show has become one of the most successful IPs for the studio in recent years. Based on the game of the same name, it was praised for everything it brought to the table. Since the confirmation of a second season, fans have been eagerly waiting, and now it seems HBO CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys has revealed the release window, which will leave you even more excited.

The Last of Us Season 2 Gets a Narrowed 2025 Release Window

For those unaware, the makers of The Last of Us Season 2 recently released the first haunting teaser, offering a shocking glimpse of what’s to come in the upcoming season. They confirmed that the show would premiere sometime in 2025, but the exact date remained unclear. However, Casey Bloys has now confirmed that The Last of Us will hit Max in the spring of 2025, providing fans with a more specific release window. Here’s what this means for the show’s timeline.

Knowing that the show is slated for spring 2025 is a relief compared to the previous vague window of the entire year. Spring generally spans from March to May, so if the makers intend to release the season and complete its run within this period, The Last of Us Season 2 could debut in March and stream through April or May, covering the full spring season. This is certainly an exciting update as it brings the show’s release much closer than fans initially anticipated.

Shorter Episode Count for Season 2

Unlike its predecessor, The Last of Us Season 2 will have fewer episodes. While Season 1 had nine episodes, Season 2 will have only seven. Showrunner Craig Mazin confirmed that the second game’s source material deserves two full seasons to do justice to its story, and cramming everything into one would not be fair. Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal will reprise their roles as Ellie and Joel, respectively. They will be joined by new faces, including Isabella Merced (Dina), Young Mazino (Jesse), Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), Jeffrey Wright (Isaac), and Catherine O’Hara.

Unseen Stories in The Last of Us Season 2

While the wait for The Last of Us Season 2 is growing tougher, and 2025 feels far off, Craig Mazin has teased something even more exciting. In an interview with Deadline, he hinted that, while the season will be based on the second game, it will also feature unseen stories. “As a fan, I’m thrilled that there might be a third Last of Us game,” Mazin said, building anticipation for what HBO has in store.

“As the co-creator of this television show, there’s no world where I would want our show to go beyond the source material that people have in the world,” he added. “Our show on HBO will cover the material from the second game and quite a bit of material that is relevant to that story but will wander down interesting new paths, featuring unseen stories that weren’t told within the context of the game’s material.”
