During this year’s WonderCon, AMC gave fans their first look at the upcoming spinoff mini-series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, releasing a teaser trailer that confirms Ghostbusters: Afterlife star Logan Kim will join the cast, starring alongside Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Playing the role of Hershel Rhee, Kim can be spotted in the trailer, with the series centered around his character’s abduction leading to his mother, Maggie Rhee (Cohan), turning to Negan (Morgan), as her son’s unlikely savior.
According to showrunner Eli Jorne, viewers can expect a “Walking Dead like we’ve never seen,” with the spinoff taking the story into Manhattan, a drastic contrast when compared to the more woodland and rural settings the series is known for.
“It’s New York; there’s skyscrapers up to the sky and a million and a half walkers. And for characters like Maggie and Negan, who’ve been running through the woods for a long time, it’s just a whole new world that’s just extremely claustrophobic, scary, and also, as you’ll discover, has pockets of survivors, you’ll get to see all the strange new ways they live in the apocalypse, it’s definitely like nothing you’ve seen before.”
The six-episode series will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on June 18, 2023, at 10 p.m. ET.
Ghostbusters fans are undoubtedly hoping to see Kim back for this year’s Ghostbusters sequel, returning to the role of the exuberant conspiracy theorist Podcast. At this time, Kim has stayed pretty mute regarding his involvement, with Columbia Pictures Ghost Corps only confirming the return of Afterlife stars Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon, and as just announced, cast additions Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.
