Melissa McBride as Carol pointing a gun in The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon season 1 finale

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, officially subtitled The Book of Carol, releases its first images, revealing Carol’s return. Premiering in 2023, Daryl’s spinoff show follows Norman Reedus’ character as he embarks on a new adventure after being shipwrecked on the coast of France. The absence of Melissa McBride’s Carol looms large over the spinoff, but the finale tees up her triumphant future return. With the show having been a critical and viewership hit, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 is now scheduled to release this fall.

Now, TheWrap shares new images from The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, one of which spotlights Carol’s return while the other serves as a first-look at Daryl. Check out the new images below:

Carol is pictioned with Daryl’s motorcycle as the search for her friend continues, and she’s certainly looking just as capable and ready for action as ever. Reedus’ character, on the other hand, seemingly remains in France and is wielding a shotgun against an unseen threat.

How Carol Could Fit Into Daryl Dixon Season 2

The Walking Dead Star Will Play A Pivotal Role

It’s been widely reported that the original iteration of the Daryl spinoff was a two-hander between Reedus and McBride. McBride eventually dropped out of the show, however, seemingly due to the filming commitments in Europe away from her family. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1 finale features Carol’s surprise return, with the character in Maine on a quest to find Daryl.

In addition to Reedus and McBride, the Daryl Dixon cast includes Clémence Poésy, Laika Blanc Francard, Romain Levi, Eriq Ebouaney, and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi.

Daryl, notably, remains in France when the credits roll on season 1, and a season 2 logline, per The Wrap, confirms that the two characters “will both have to confront old demons as Carol continues her search and Daryl struggles with his decision to stay.” For Daryl, this means getting caught in the conflict between the Union de L’Espoir and Pouvoir des Vivants over France’s future. Daryl and Carol’s storylines, then, are seemingly set to continue on separate tracks for at least part of season 2 as she remains stateside.

It’s hard to imagine, however, that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 won’t feature the two characters eventually reuniting at some point. It could be frustrating for viewers, after all, to follow the two characters’ separate journeys for too long without some sort of collision point. Many questions remain about The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, but Carol is evidently going to be a crucial part of the events to come.
