Review of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 Episode 1(Image via AMC)

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 Episode 1, La Gentillesse des Étrangers (French), which translates to The Kindness of Strangers in English, delivered exactly what it promised through its title.

In the first episode of the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, Carol, one of the main characters of the show, sought assistance from a stranger, Ash, to seek out Daryl who had been sent off to France.

Ash is a pilot who has access to private planes, which could aid in her quest to find Daryl. When she learnt of that, she asked him for help but not before carefully spewing a half-true narrative about her life that would resonate with him, especially about her daughter Sophia.

Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier is an ace in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 Episode 1

Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier has had quite the character development in The Walking Dead series (both the original and the spinoff series).

Mostly perceived as a demure and submissive person initially, especially in her actions and reactions towards and in response to her abusive late husband Ed, fans wouldn’t have imagined what she would be capable of doing in the future.

Carol is trying to make a cross-continent journey to track down her close friend Daryl Dixon, who’s in France. However, she’s forced to brave multiple adversities, including severe climatic conditions, terrain, and of course “The Walking Dead” or the Walkers.

Nevertheless, the adversities or limitations are not just physical but mental, as time and again Carol is reminded of her daughter Sophia (a constant in The Walking Dead series) who was killed by the Walkers and revived, leaving her to be the last surviving member of her family.

However, in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 Episode 1, her past agonies related to her daughter played an important part in her getting access to her main mode of communication to France.

As previously mentioned, Carol befriended Ash, a pilot in America after she found that he had access to planes that could carry her across the ocean and reunite her with Dixon. She insidiously played upon Ash’s feelings by sharing her dead daughter’s story, as Ash too had lost a child, and used it to get what she wanted.

The Walkers are back and are creating chaos as usual in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 episode 1

Despite Carol being far better equipped to handle Walkers in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 Episode 1 since the show’s beginning, the dead continue to be a problem for her and others.

Carol and Ash got a taste of the same when they attempt to fly off in search of Dixon, as the Walkers attacked their plane. While the zombies attempted to restrict them from flying, Carol held her ground and fought them vicariously through all means.

In one of the most satisfying zombie death scenes in the episode, Carol pushes a Walker into the plane’s propellor blades, dicing it off into pieces.

Overall, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 Episode 1 was a good start to the Carol and Daryl-focused The Walking Dead franchise. The next episode of the show airs on October 6, 2024, on AMC.
