the last of us part 2 ellie fan art in style of the walking dead comics

A fan of The Last of Us Part 2 has shared a stunning piece of fan art with the community that echoes the style of The Walking Dead comic. Both franchises are set after an apocalyptic event, harboring hostile zombies or Infected, and harsh environments and factions for the rich roster of characters to survive. Despite The Walking Dead comic series’ main run ending in 2019, artists are still influenced by its unique style, and the tone fits perfectly well with this The Last of Us Part 2 creation.

The Last of Us was released in 2013 and was succeeded by a darker chapter seven years later in 2020. The Last of Us Part 2 won Game of the Year with overwhelming accolades highlighting the title’s storytelling, visual design, performances, and more. Continuing the franchise’s longevity, Naughty Dog recently added PlayStation 5 Pro support to The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2 Remastered, and rumors swirling about a potential third installment in the story include another time jump for the main characters.

Posted on Reddit by Imonty11, a piece of fan art was shared within The Last of Us subreddit, showcasing Ellie from the franchise’s sequel holding a knife over her face. The artwork digs into cool, black-and-white tones with red accents to emphasize the blood, and an enemy’s face can be seen reflected in the blade. A comparison was made to the style of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic, however, the artist didn’t specifically cite the zombie-based series as an influence. The Walking Dead joins some of the best zombie apocalypse comic books, and the run’s artistic technique by Tony Moore certainly matches The Last of Us’ tone if the influence was intended.

One Redditor noted they would love to see some of the Infected enemies drawn in a similar style, joining the originality of other fan art pieces, including one The Last of Us fan’s Clicker sculpture made out of bread. Fans of the artwork loved seeing Ellie depicted in this raw style, which symbolizes the sequel’s darker notes. Additionally, Redditors were curious to know what motivated the artist to include the reflection in the knife, but the artist still has to clarify that specific choice.

The fandom is already rife with fan art dedicated to the games’ characters and rich narrative, and one The Last of Us fan even sketched a mural fit for Ellie’s journal. Similarly, The Walking Dead fandom has its own, healthy share of artwork, mostly covering AMC’s live-action adaptation of Kirkman’s comic, and a series of spin-offs have also been keeping fans entertained, including the currently airing The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol.
