Emma Roberts is opening up about Calabasas, a series she’s producing for Netflix alongside Kim Kardashian.
“We have the amazing Marlene King who did Pretty Little Liars as our showrunner,” Roberts said during an interview on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw. “I’m obsessed with her and Pretty Little Liars, it’s a tongue twister, I remember seeing that show and being like, ‘I wish I was on that show.’ It was just so cool and so fun, but yeah.”
Although Roberts said there wasn’t much she could share about the series based on the book If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous By Now by Via Bleidner, she said she wanted Calabasas to be “the next The OC.”
“I think that if we do this right, it’ll be a little The OC, a little Pretty Little Liars, and yeah. Kim and I are just two Calabasas girls going back to our roots,” she added.
Roberts said that as a Calabasas resident, she used to shop at Kardashian’s “clothing store DASH before they had their TV show, and so I would see them in the store, and so it’s just so funny how life works.”
The American Horror Story: Delicate star said that neither she nor Kardashian have any roles in Calabasas but left the door open to anything.
“Anything is possible. You know, I think that, maybe. Yeah. Nothing is written yet for us, but we’re not opposed,” she said.
Calabasas follows Via, a 16-year-old sheltered Midwestern Catholic school girl whose world is turned upside down when her family moves and she’s forced to transfer to the fast world of Calabasas High where nothing is as it appears and where everyone is trying to be someone else. It’s a place where dreams come true … but not without complications and sometimes unforeseen consequences.
