The rap star sounded off on Joe Budden following the podcaster’s recent comments on his show, where he claimed, “We’ll never get another Cardi album again”
On Thursday, July 18, the 31-year-old rap star sounded off in an X (formerly Twitter) Spaces after catching wind of recent comments made about her forthcoming LP this week on The Joe Budden Podcast.
“When the topic of anticipation for Cardi’s second album came up during the episode, host Joe Budden, 43, said, “We’ll never get another Cardi album again. I am standing on it.”
In response to the criticism, Cardi, per a clip shared on social media, spewed on X, “I don’t give a f— when people talk s— about me. It’s the fact you always talk s— about me, Joe Budden. Out of nowhere, you would think I did something to this n—-… For the past two years, this n—- has only talked bad things about me, constantly.”
The Grammy winner fired back with more claims against Budden, alleging that he compares her to other female rappers “every five, six months” and only ever offers criticism for her singles.
“Everything you do, whether it’s my personal life or my music life, you always talking s— about it,” Cardi continued. “But you fake thirsty for my album. You not thirsty for my album, you thirsty to criticize it. You thirsty to kick it down. You thirsty to talk s— about it. You never compliment me.”
The “Enough (Miami)” rapper then defended her sophomore album’s upcoming release by saying, “‘The album is never coming–’ What are you talking about? The s— is in motion. The merch is in motion. The box sets are in motion. You don’t know s— that’s going on this side.”
After the Spaces concluded, Cardi wrote to her fans in an X post, “I wanna say this to Bardi gang or anybody who’s just a fan of my music or even my craziness… I have my good days and my bad days but you know what, whether it’s good or bad I couldn’t be happier with the obvious anticipation for my album..Sometimes I get a little aggressive because yall know I don’t like to be told what to do but I promise you it’s coming THIS YEAR. Thank you for the love and anticipation and always holding me down ❤️ I love yall.”
Responding to Cardi’s Spaces comments, Budden later wrote on X, “I really just wanted an album from someone whose music i love 🤦🏾.” In another post, he added, “She cursing me smooth out but she still hilarious lol…. I’m going to bed, i apologize to @iamcardib for whatever i did and peace and love to all.”
Cardi’s been in defense mode of her second studio album — which still doesn’t have a set release date — ever since she exchanged heated words with a fan on X in May, after which she claimed on the platform, “anyway NO album this year I don’t care I’m relaxing this year ..Dropping these features I already committed to and traveling and enjoying my summer.”
The hitmaker has since retracted her comments, with a rep for her confirming to Rolling Stone that there are still plans for the project to drop later this year.
In her June cover story for the publication, Cardi opened up about her new music and revealed that she’s hesitant to discuss her personal life in it “because people use my pain against me.”
“I really want to talk about the life changes that I’ve been dealing with the past six, seven years,” she added. “But then it’s just like, I feel like people don’t deserve to know.”
