One of the biggest draws of the Season 10 finale of The Walking Dead was Lauren Cohan’s Maggie returning to help the joint communities. After taking some time away, Maggie finds a letter in the opening sequence detailing how the Whisperer War has wrecked the alliance, setting the stage for her to come home.
However, Maggie isn’t alone as she brings a masked slasher with her. And, apart from looking the part, what’s also noteworthy about this hero is that he just so happens to be deadlier than Michonne.
Michonne won over fans of both the comics and show with how she slices and dices zombies, with her katana being recognized as one of the franchise’s iconic weapons. But this slasher has some signature weapons of his own with short-handled scythes and what seems to be a kung-fu style of fighting, with his lightning-fast speed having many comparing him to the likes of Bruce Lee.
The slasher arrives in the opening sequence as he meets up with Alden and Aaron as they kill Whisperers away from the Tower, although Maggie’s not with him. It’s in the final act, though, that he gets his shining moment when Gabriel’s about to be overridden by Whisperers inside the hospital. As they’re about to kill Gabriel, Maggie arrives to take out enemies when, in the blink of an eye, the slasher appears, cutting up Whisperers and leaving Gabriel stunned.
His weapons give him an advantage in terms of how quickly he can move and react, plus it’s less extension for zombies or enemies to grab than a sword. Admittedly, this skillset provides such a crucial tool for the likes of Daryl and a reborn Carol to use moving forward. As for those curious who’s underneath the mask, Cohan has confirmed it’s a man, but that it won’t be a love interest, even though it’s been nine years since Glenn’s death. The masked man is too old to be Glenn’s son, Hershel, leaving many intrigued as to his identity, which could be touched upon in the extra six episodes before the new battles to come in Season 11.
With these quick bursts, all this new ally brings is flash and chaos, leaving many wondering what the true history between him and Maggie is. Regardless of that, though, this new presence could open the door for other new allies being brought to the table as the show begins to near its final season.
