Summary:
As each season of Bridgerton follows the love story of a new couple, viewers are also treated to several subplots involving the ensemble cast.
In season 2, which explored the relationship between Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, fans were upset with the amount of screen time the Featherington family was given.
In season 3, however, many believe that the race to produce an heir among the Featherington sisters is the funniest storyline yet.
One of the best things about Bridgerton is that the show rarely repeats itself. Just as Julia Quinn’s book series, on which the show is based, explored a different love story in each novel, the show does the same with its seasons. Starting with Daphne Bridgeton, moving on to Anthony, and then Colin, it also introduces viewers to different romance tropes.
While the novel format allowed the story to revolve around one couple and follow them every moment, the TV show has to include the ensemble to expand the world and make the story feel as realistic as possible. However, it wasn’t until season 3 that the show found the perfect balance between the main characters and all the subplots.
Is Bridgerton Season 3 Good?
So far, viewers have only seen the first 4 episodes of the third season of Bridgerton, but the majority of viewers were very pleased with what they saw. Those fans who only watched the show had two previous years to build up Penelope and Colin’s relationship, and fans of the book were pleasantly surprised by the accuracy.
What has been a nice surprise is the way the writers fit in all the additional subplots without taking away from the main storylines. While season 2 spent a lot of screen time with the Featherington family and their con artist cousin Jack, who didn’t have anything to do with Kate and Anthony, season 3 ended up being different in the best way possible.
Penelope’s family had a major storyline of their own this time around, and that storyline was a force that pushed Bridgerton’s leading lady to go through the transformation. After Jack said goodbye at the end of season 2, Penelope’s two sisters, Prudence and Philipa, found themselves in a race to produce an heir to take over the estate.

Not only was this subplot a clever way to get Penelope to try the marriage market and actually make an effort to find a husband this season, it was also a perfect opportunity to let her family shine without taking away from the other couple’s story.
So far, many fans agree that Polly Walker as Portia, Bessie Carter as Prudence, and Harriet Cains as Philipa Featheringtons were the comedic MVPs of season 3. Hopefully they will continue to shine in the second part of the season. If you want to find out who wins the estate, be sure to tune into Bridgerton season 3 part 2 on Netflix on June 16.
