The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3’s filming location was recently confirmed by Norman Reedus, and while this could create a fun new dynamic for the spinoff, it makes a Walking Dead crossover even harder. While promoting his latest theatrical release, The Bikeriders, Norman Reedus commented on the return of Daryl Dixon, creating some big expectations. Reedus excitedly claimed Daryl Dixon season 2’s final episode contained the best hour of Walking Dead television ever, making the show’s return feel even bigger, but the actor also gave an insight into the spinoff’s future, seemingly revealing season 3’s location.
Having taken the franchise to Europe for the first time, Daryl Dixon‘s French setting stood out given how unique it was compared to other Walking Dead projects. Although Dead City‘s New York backdrop also gave it a distinct atmosphere, Daryl’s spinoff provided some breathtaking visuals that look set to continue in season 2. Daryl Dixon‘s filming locations confirm the French setting will once again be present in season 2; however, Reedus’ comments indicate that the show is set for a change of scenery in the future, which makes the chances of a Walking Dead crossover even lower.
Daryl Dixon season 2 will be officially titled, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol and is set to be released on September 29, 2024.
Daryl Dixon Seasons 3 & 4 Look Set To Continue Daryl’s European Adventure
Norman Reedus Confirmed Filming For Season 3 Will Take Place In Spain
With Daryl Dixon looking likely to continue into a fourth season, the protagonist’s European journey seems like it will continue for the foreseeable future. Plenty of rumors have already begun circling about filming locations for the show, and Norman Reedus seemed to confirm Daryl Dixon season 3 will take place in Spain. During an interview with American Rider, Reedus mentioned that he was heading to Spain to shoot more Daryl Dixon and referenced season 3 specifically, indicating that while the show will change its location, it will continue to take place in Europe.
In a different interview with Radio Times, Reedus seemingly confirmed Daryl Dixon season 4 was also on the cards. As a result, it appears that Spain could be the predominant location for season 4 as well, cementing the spinoff’s European future. Given how different the show feels from the rest of the franchise, the Spanish setting could be a breath of fresh air – just like France was – giving Daryl Dixon new life. This sets up an exciting next few years for the project; however, it also makes a Walking Dead crossover far less likely.
Daryl Dixon’s Future Plans Make A Walking Dead Crossover Less Likely
The Spinoff’s Future Suggests Daryl Won’t Return To America Anytime Soon
Although Daryl Dixon‘s plans are intriguing, they all but confirm a Walking Dead crossover won’t happen anytime soon. Despite The Walking Dead building towards a crossover with The Ones Who Live‘s ending, Daryl Dixon‘s European stay complicates things as the protagonist looks set to remain in Europe for several seasons, meaning he won’t be returning home to America. Rick and Michonne appear to finally be back among the main group, while Maggie and Negan are also available since Dead City doesn’t take place until later in the timeline, but Daryl and Carol appear to be out of the picture.
The spinoff’s Spain confirmation means Daryl won’t be returning to Alexandria or the Commonwealth in the near future, which significantly lowers the chances of a crossover.
Daryl Dixon‘s radio call suggests Rick and Carol may have already reunited, but the spinoff’s current plans mean Daryl will remain a long way from home for the next few seasons. The crossover show seems unlikely to happen without Daryl as Reedus is one of the franchise’s biggest stars and arguably its most important character alongside Rick. Therefore, The Walking Dead would undoubtedly want him involved if they were to bring everyone back together, but the spinoff’s Spain confirmation means Daryl won’t be returning to Alexandria or the Commonwealth in the near future, which significantly lowers the chances of a crossover.
Why A Walking Dead Crossover Still Needs To Happen (With Daryl)
A Walking Dead Crossover Needs To Reunite Daryl & Rick Grimes
The Walking Dead crossover show may look less likely after Daryl Dixon‘s latest announcement, but it still needs to happen at some point. Despite the main show ending with season 11, the franchise’s story clearly isn’t over, with three spinoffs taking place after the conclusion. The majority of the franchise’s main characters are continuing their journeys, and with Rick and Michonne back in The Walking Dead universe, they need to reunite with the rest of the group on screen. The spinoff shows may be great, but without a crossover, they would feel somewhat meaningless.
Having all these individual stories would be more impactful if it led to everyone reuniting and getting some sort of closure. While it feels like the franchise could go on forever, the characters deserve a definitive ending, and given Daryl and Rick’s reunion is one of The Walking Dead‘s most anticipated scenes, Norman Reedus has to be involved in the crossover. Daryl Dixon is still going strong and is a popular project for the zombie series, but the crossover has to happen eventually to give the franchise the true ending that season 11 lacked.
