The fourth season of Emily in Paris ended on a surprising note this week, with some fans revealing growing hatred towards Gabriel.
Netflix released the second part of season four of the hit show on Thursday.
But viewers have been left wondering what will come next for the Emily-Gabriel-Marcello love triangle as Emily heads off to Rome with her new mysterious Italian boyfriend, Marcello Muratori.
Fans rushed to X to share their reactions, with some furious that the season concluded with Gabriel making his way to Italy‘s capital to find her.
One person wrote on X: ‘Tbh I’m really sick of this #Gabriel and #Emily situation ship back and forth. Can we just move on to the next guy.’
Part two of season four premiered Thursday, and fans are expressing their dislike towards Emily’s French love interest, Gabriel
The season ended with Emily being offered to lead the company in its new Rome location – and fans are expressing excitement for Emily in Rome and her growing relationship with Marcello
Another person said: ‘#TeamMarcello #EmilyinParis – perfect ending. Always hated Gabriel. Happy Emily stayed with Marcello.’
A third added: ‘I love Emily in Paris BUT I NEED THAT SHE FORGET GABRIEL AND STAY WITH ITALIAN BOY!!!!!!’
Other comments included: ‘I love Emily in Paris. Hate the back and forth with Gabriel. Drop him sis!’
‘Gabriel better stay in Paris and leave Emily alone. I’m so done with his sorry a**. He never chose Emily first, he only cares about her and there’s other man involved. ENOUGH!! STOP TRYING TO MAKE EMILY AND GABRIEL HAPPEN!!!!!’
‘One thing I hate about #EmilyinParis is how they make us fall in love with all her boyfriends, only for her to end up with Gabriel each time. I really don’t want to see them together again. It’s getting annoying and I’m glad Alfie finally got the happy ending he deserves.’
Emily and Gabriel ended in a great place at the end of part one when his ex Camille moved out of his apartment so he and Emily could be alone.
But in true Emily in Paris fashion, it didn’t take long for the drama to start brewing.
In part two, Emily’s flight back to Chicago got cancelled. And even though there’s no place like home for the holidays, Emily was stuck spending Christmas Eve with Gabriel and Camille’s family in Megève.
The internet’s favorite Italian boy made his first appearance after Gabriel left Emily stranded on the top of a ski slope to chase after his ex.
After Marcello helped her down the mountain, she ended her relationship with Gabriel after being tired of constantly feeling as though she is in second place to Camille.
Later in the season, Marcello swooped in and quickly became a new love interest.
After their date in Paris, she visited him in Rome and things seemed to be moving fast. She joined him to visit his small hometown of Solitano where she learned more about his family.
The finale concluded with a great new opportunity for Emily: leading a Rome based office which Sylvie encourages Emily to take, not only to stay in beautiful Italy but to be closer to her new man.
Fans are rooting for Marcello after Emily broke it off with Gabriel after constantly feeling like a second option to his ex, Camille
Although Netflix hasn’t announced a date for season five, the popularity the show has gained is a promising sign for a continuation of the series
Many fans believe that Marcello is the new guy for Emily – and her relationship with Gabriel has run its course
Ahead of the next season, some fans urged creators to ditch toxic Gabriel and ‘bring back season one and two Gabriel’ if they are going to end up together.
Although some people feel as though Gabriel and Emily are ‘end-game’, the general consensus seems to be that their relationship has run its course and are hoping for #EmilyinRome – with no Gabriel.
But fans will have to wait until season five to see where Emily’s love life heads next.
Netflix has yet to officially announce the renewal of Emily in Paris for a fifth season, but the popularity and excitement surrounding the potential of a new setting for Emily suggests a promising outlook for the continuation of the series, according to the Economic Times.
