It’s not looking good! Week 1 of the 2024 season might have experienced a string of injuries, one after another. And the Cowboys vs Browns game just saw one. Dallas’ tight end, Jake Ferguson, was not looking in good shape at all as he limped off the gridiron, helped on by the medical team.
His day took a turn when he landed awkwardly after trying to leap over Browns linebacker Jordan Hicks in the third quarter. Immediately grabbing his knee, Cowboys fans collectively held their breath. After a quick evaluation, Dallas’ medical staff escorted him to the locker room, and just like that, his game was over.
The Cowboys later announced Ferguson as questionable to return with a knee injury, but seeing him limp out of the locker room with an ace wrap didn’t inspire much confidence. Something did, however. And it was his numbers pre-injury. Three catches for 15 yards, he was keeping the Browns defense always second-guessing. On top of this, he was just settling into it. But you’ve got to ask: Was the team playing it safe, or could this be more serious?
According to Calvin Watkins of Dallas News, Ferguson is scheduled for an MRI and is hoping it’s just a hyperextension. He even mentioned feeling like he could’ve played through it—though better safe than sorry, right? The severity of Ferguson’s injury will become clearer after further testing. But one major hit would be his chemistry with his signal-caller.
Jake Ferguson and Dak Prescott’s synergy is key for the Cowboys!
A security blanket is what a TE is to a QB. So, why should Jake Ferguson play any different role for Dak Prescott? They are like a QB-WR duo clicking in the red zone. It’s not us throwing words around the spanner. But even Jake said it. Moreover, the numbers back the statement as well.
When asked about his bond with Dak, Ferguson said, “You’d have to ask him, but I think the chemistry is there.” Number-wise? The duo completed 71 catches for 761 yards and five touchdowns last season. Let that sink in!
No doubt, Ferguson was expected to play a big role in Dallas’ passing game this season, so his sudden exit was like a cold timeout. Fans are hoping for good news because, as we all know, a healthy TE is crucial to keeping the offense firing on all cylinders.
