Fans who tuned in to the first episode of Angel Reese’s new podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” were not left disappointed. The Chicago Sky star had more than a few things to talk about in the show, which included her brutally honest view on her Rookie of the Year race against Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.
Another noteworthy portion of the near-hour-long show was when Reese opened up about her relationship with former LSU Tigers teammate Flau’jae Johnson — or rather, the lack thereof.
Reese and Johnson formed a strong friendship during their two years together with the Tigers. These two won a national championship in 2023 together, too, so you just know that their bond runs deep.
As it turns out, however, it was not as deep as most fans had assumed. At least, not anymore.
“I still support Flau’jae, Reese said in the podcast. “We aren’t as close as we used to be. And there’s no hard feelings or anything, but we aren’t as close as we used to be. That’s why people always expect us to still be posting each other and stuff like that. But, like, we aren’t as close.
“It happens,” Reese continued. “You don’t have the best relationships with everybody and don’t always continue relationships with people. So I wish her the best always, and I’m always gonna support her… but yeah, there’s no love lost.”
Reese did not reveal whether or not she had a falling out with Johnson, but she made it clear that they are no longer as close as they were. There’s also a sense of finality in Angel’s statement here, which could hint at how strained their current relationship has become.
For what it’s worth, Reese and Johnson’s mothers previously got into a heated exchange on social media over their daughters. Angel’s mom criticized Flau’jae’s grammar, which prompted a fiery response from Johnson’s mother. It is unclear if this incident, which happened early in the LSU season, had any impact on the relationship of the two basketball stars.
