Coronation Street stalwart Jack P Shepherd has given fans an intimate look into the dramatic arrival of his first child with wife Hanni Treweek, revealing that the newborn arrived a full two weeks overdue via an unmedicated home water birth.
The actor, best known for playing Weatherfield’s resident troublemaker David Platt on the long-running ITV soap since 2000, took to his podcast On The Sofa alongside co-star Colson Smith to recount the gripping details. According to Shepherd, the couple successfully steered clear of hospital induction protocols despite the pregnancy running two weeks past its scheduled timeline.
A Slow Labour and a Poolside Surprise
Hanni, a former Coronation Street storyliner, underwent a slow, methodical labour starting on a Sunday before baby girl Constance Ita Shepherd finally made her peaceful debut on Friday, June 26.
Displaying remarkable discipline, Hanni managed the entire delivery at home in a birthing pool without any traditional pain relief, gas, or air. “She’d done hypnobirthing, she’d done all that,” Shepherd shared on the podcast. “She’d done exercises and whatnot. She was fully on it!”
Adding an extra layer of tension to the delivery room, the couple had opted not to find out the gender of the baby ahead of time. Shepherd revealed that everyone present—including the attending midwives—was entirely convinced they were welcoming a boy.
In a surprising twist, it fell directly to the soap star to make the ultimate announcement. “Well, I got baby out,” Shepherd recalled. After a brief, anxious couple of minutes ensuring the newborn was transitioning smoothly, Hanni asked if it was a boy. “And they were like, ‘Oh, we don’t know…'” Jack explained. “And Hanni went, ‘Oh, let’s have a look!’ And Hanni was like, ‘Oh, yeah. Oh, is it a boy?’ And I went, ‘No, it’s a girl!'”
A Unique Tribute and Community Backing
The couple announced the safe arrival shortly afterward on social media, sharing a touching black-and-white and colour snapshot holding their daughter’s tiny hand, captioned: “Our beautiful baby girl has arrived, born peacefully at home, surrounded by love.”
Fans and fellow soap stars quickly flooded social media channels with congratulations. Co-stars including Jane Danson, Georgia Taylor, Sam Aston, Sally Dynevor, and Tina O’Brien sent warm wishes to the pair.
Discussing the inspiration behind their daughter’s distinctive moniker, Shepherd revealed that Constance carries a personal significance for the pair, noting that it shares a direct link to the very first perfume he ever bought his wife.
The new arrival marks the fourth child for Shepherd, who is already a father to Nyla Rae and Reuben from his previous relationship with Lauren Shippey, and son Greyson with former partner Sammy Milewski. Following their stunning wedding at Manchester Cathedral in July 2025, the latest addition rounds out an unforgettable chapter for the soap royalty family as they settle into life as a family of five.
