Becki Newton star of The Lincoln Lawyer once endured tough times in a wooden cabin to achieve her current success, and everyone agrees after hearing her story

Becki Newton takes on the challenge of becoming a lawyer herself in the latest season of Netflix’s “The Lincoln Lawyer.” Years before appearing on the show, the actress was performing in high school productions in the shoreline town of Guilford.

“The Lincoln Lawyer,” a show themed around a Los Angeles defense attorney who is known for working out of his Lincoln car, premiered its third season on Thursday, Oct. 17. In the legal drama, Becki Newton stars as Lorna Crane, a legal assistant (and ex-wife) to the series’ protagonist Mickey Haller (played by actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), according to Netflix’s Tudum. During the new season, Crane’s character arc centers around her transition from a legal aide to a lawyer, the actress told Entertainment Weekly in October.

Lorna Crane isn’t Becki Newton’s first role; she has portrayed many characters in shows including “Ugly Betty” (which aired from 2006 through 2010), 2012’s “How I Met Your Mother” and 2018’s “Divorce.” However, years before becoming an actress, she spent her childhood growing up in Guilford. Newton’s family lived in a log cabin in a wooded area of the town before her parents built a larger house on the property, her brother and fellow actor, Matt Newton, told Hearst Connecticut Media in 2016. Matt Newton, known for roles in “Drake & Josh” and “Gilmore Girls,” attended Guilford High School and went on to teach acting at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center and Western Connecticut State University, according to his LinkedIn page. The actress was born in New Haven on July 4, 1978, according to her IMDb page.

Becki Newton told her aunt, Stephanie Chase, in an interview for the blog Stay Thirsty Magazine that when she was young, her grandmother helped her learn to play the violin and how to read music. Her childhood love of music led her to join choirs and eventually discover musical theater. While she attended Guilford High School, she participated in some of the school’s musical productions, which helped further develop her love of acting, she told the Hartford Courant in 2006.
