One Ring to rule them all.
Here’s one for Tolkien fans: A new box set of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy is up for preorder (see it at Amazon). Priced at an oddly specific $157.32 and set to release December 20, it’s a gift box that includes all three films in both theatrical and extended editions across nine 4K UHD Blu-ray discs. The packaging looks like a book, which is pretty cool, complete with a Middle-earth map on the inside cover. But the real selling point is that it comes with a great-looking replica of the One Ring.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: One Ring Gift Box (4K UHD)
The One Ring replica looks like a high quality piece of replica jewelry, with a shiny gold finish and the iconic phrase engraved in Elvish on the outside and inside of the ring. As you probably already know, translated to English, it says, “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.” The ring comes in a pouch, hanging on a silver chain. It looks awesome.
The gift box for this release has a faux-leather finish, with gold foil and embossing for the text and art. Etched into the cover is the same drawing of the Doors of Durin found in the book. It all looks very classy.
Now, if you don’t care about packaging and you can do without the One Ring replica, you should absolutely steer clear of this release. You can pick up the standard trilogy instead for way cheaper. This gift box is just that exact release, packaged with the One Ring replica and the book-style box. Nothing more.
But that’s a great bundle of movies. You get the theatrical and extended versions of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The only downside is that this release doesn’t include any special features or behind-the-scenes documentaries. It’s just the movies.
This certainly isn’t the first time these movies have been made available, but if you don’t have them on 4K UHD discs yet, or a Tolkien fan on your gift list doesn’t, it’s a good way to pick them up.
