Disney and 20th Century’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has been going strong since the opening weekend. Garnering overall positive reviews, the movie projected a staggering domestic range. Later, the film even conquered the international box office with $40.6M in its second weekend of release.

However, despite Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ overall success, the movie is anticipated to struggle to join the elite $500M club of 2024, currently led by Dune: Part Two. According to recent box office predictions, since the reboot franchise has managed to generate $237M globally, it is deemed to end its theatrical run with a maximum of $410M. Making it difficult to even enter the $500M milestone.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Box Office Collection

From the director of The Maze Runner Wes Ball, many years after the reign of Caesar, came the fourth chapter in the “Apes” reboot franchise. Breathing new life into the global, epic film series set several generations in the future, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes narrated the tale of a young ape who ventured on a journey to seek answers for everything he’s been taught so far.

Making its way into the theatres on May 10, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes made with a staggering $160M budget via Variety, managed to create an impact at the box office. Opening strong during the weekend with positive reviews, the movie earned $136M overseas making a global collection of $237M.

However, although the movie is swinging at the box office to justify its production budget, it is predicted to fall short by the end of its theatrical run. Despite the decent performance of the latest installment, the movie seems to be lacking the momentum needed to reach the coveted $500M milestone.

Apes Movie Might Not Enter the Elite Club Led by Dune: Part 2

According to reports from Variety about the current box office status surrounding Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, it seems like a steady run. However, according to future predictions reported by The Hollywood Handle, Wes Ball’s film is anticipated to end its theatrical run earning $385M-$410M globally.

Based on this particular prediction, it will become difficult for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes to make its way into the elite $500M club. Being the fourth-highest-grossing movie of the year, behind Kung Fu Panda 4 ($533M), Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ($561M), and Dune: Part Two ($710M).

Crossing the $500M milestone, Denis Villeneuve‘s magnum opus Dune: Part Two has set the bar high for 2024 releases. With the movie gracefully leading the elite club with its eye-watering $710M collection, its success is constantly raising the stakes for films like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, competing for a spot in the $500M club.

Although the box office collection of Wes Ball’s film so far has been respectable, it may not be enough to sustain a strong box office run. Therefore, as per predictions, while the movie garnered praise from its fans, its box office traction doesn’t seem adequate for the movie to join the milestone set by this year’s top-grossing films.
