Netflix’s “Bridgerton” Season 3 World Premiere

If you’ve been enjoying Bridgerton’s “very naked” sex scenes as much as Queen Camilla, you are apparently indebted to Shonda Rhimes and her personal fantasies. While promoting the third season of the much daydreamt about Netflix series’, the show’s creator visited the set of The Jennifer Hudson Show on Thursday to tease what she calls “probably one of our sexiest seasons.” But when host Jennifer Hudson asked about the inspiration behind some of the series’ signature erotica, Rhimes giggled, “Wish fulfillment, a little bit.” “I’m single, in case you know anybody,” she added, nodding out to the audience.

That Bridgerton is essentially Shonda Rhimes’ commercialized fanfic makes perfect sense. But I’m even more in her corner knowing that the oft-discussed sex scenes that made the series a sensation in the first place are Rhimes — who sounds about as painfully single as I am these days — manifesting her own sex life into being.

“Season 3 is good. I just love the couple that we’re dealing with, you know, Colin and Penelope are people that we’ve already known … We’ve been watching them all these seasons, and so now we really get to see them get together,” Rhimes added. “It’s really a season about people who are wallflower flowers, the shy people coming out of their shell, and that’s exciting.”

A little soft-core porn with a sprinkle of regency-era gowns and a friends-to-lovers plot? Sounds like a script that’d feel right at home on Wattpad next to the Harry Styles-inspired The Idea of You. I’d like to personally thank Shonda for that season one staircase scene, and Duke Regé-Jean Page, if you’re reading, I’m hoping you can fulfill my single woman wishes, too.
