The Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo was extremely critical of recent Star Wars entries, and his comments were met with mixed reactions at the time.
The Star Wars fanbase is in its most divided state, especially after The Acolyte. The series received generally negative reviews from fans, especially because several creative choices did not land well. However, one Marvel star seemingly predicted this fallout almost two years ago.

During an interview, Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo was critical of the formulaic storytelling in the Star Wars universe. While Ruffalo’s comments were humiliating and infuriated the fanbase at the time, the criticism proved to be accurate after the release of The Acolyte. Here is what Ruffalo had to say about the shortcomings of the Star Wars franchise.
MCU Star Mark Ruffalo Dissed Star Wars With an Infuriating Comment

Mark Ruffalo is best known for playing the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor reprised his role for the Disney+ series She-Hulk. While promoting the series, Ruffalo spoke about the formulaic treatment of the Star Wars shows, comparing them to MCU shows during an interview with Metro.
If you watch a Star Wars, you’re pretty much going to get the same version of Star Wars each time.
Ruffalo made the above statement, criticizing the Star Wars universe for being formulaic and repetitive with its storytelling. The Hulk actor further added that the style of humor or CGI changed with the installments only to a certain degree.
However, Ruffalo felt that most of the Star Wars shows had a similar tone and pacing, giving them an overall similar stylistic and aesthetic feeling. On the other hand, Ruffalo felt that the MCU offered a much more diverse style to its stories by virtue of being rooted in the comic book medium.
Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte Proved Mark Ruffalo’s Star Wars Criticism Was Right
After Ruffalo’s criticism of the Star Wars universe, fans of the space opera franchise were understandably upset with the actor. Some fans were left infuriated by Ruffalo’s comments while others saw some merit in the criticism.

Here is what fans had to say about Ruffalo’s criticism of the Star Wars franchise on X (formerly Twitter).
He’s not wrong. Star Wars is very limited in some ways. Without the Clone Wars, The Empire, or even the First Order backdrop, what exactly do people in Star Wars do?

What’s he talking about? The prequels have a completely different feel to the original trilogy. If anything it’s Marvel that feels the same.

If he’s talking about Disney Star Wars, he might have a point. But Lucas’s Star Wars had more thematic depth and covered a wider range of genres than the MCU ever will

It’s true and there’s nothing wrong with that

lmao the MCU is the most predictable franchise out there

star wars fans ain’t gonna be happy about this 💀 he spitting tho

Based on the tweets, it is safe to deduce that while some fans agreed with Ruffalo’s take, many others disagreed with it. Moreover, fans felt that Ruffalo’s criticism was more applicable to the MCU than the Star Wars universe. However, following the release of The Acolyte, Ruffalo’s criticism seems more valid.
Created by Leslye Headland, the series was criticized for its plotting and pacing issues, along with being too formulaic with its storytelling.
At the same time, the series failed to visually separate itself from the previous installments such as Ahsoka and Obi-Wan Kenobi, which were also criticized for aspects such as their pacing and over-reliance on CGI. Hence, it is safe to say that the Star Wars content has become repetitive to a certain degree, justifying Ruffalo’s take.
The Acolyte is streaming on Disney+.
