The portrait of Jaskier’s most unwanted opponent has finally returned in The Witcher Season 4

valdo 1“All is not as it seems” is a phrase we heard many times episode 5 of The Witcher Season 4 as it was repeated many times over the Thanedd ball by the bard Valdo Marx, Jaskier’s worst enemy. He seemed like a one-off character, but apparently he isn’t!

Valdo Marx is back in The Witcher Season 4

We’ve learned that Nathan Armarkwei Laryea is back as Valdo Marx in the fourth season of The Witcher. We also know that we’ll see Valdo in Block 3 of the season, meaning episode 5 or 6.

We’re unaware the context of Valdo’s return, but we do know that in August 2024 The Witcher was filming a sequence with many dancers. Possibly a ball. August is right when director Alex Garcia Lopez would be filming Block 3, so that fits.

If we assume Valdo Marx is performing at a ball again, where would that ball be? It could either be in Redania with King Radovid or perhaps down in Nilfgaard with Emperor Emhyr and Fake Ciri. Either way, Jaskier and Valdo are unlikely to cross paths this time around.

Did the ball host request to perform “All is Not as it Seems” again or will we hear new songs from Valdo and his band in the new season? Only time will tell.

The Witcher Season 4 is in post-production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book has a planned Winter 2024/2025 release with The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep anime set for a February 2025 release as well.
