Anya Taylor-Joy is “very anxiously awaiting” the next season of House of the Dragon. Could she walk on set and start playing a Targaryen or what?
Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the hottest A-list stars working in Hollywood today, having appeared in shows like The Queen’s Gambit and movies like The Menu, not to mention her walk-on role in Dune: Part Two. This weekend, she’ll play the title role in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, her very own action epic. Acting opposite Chris Hemsworth as the villain Dementus, she tears up the screen.
But what does she watch in her spare time? She and Hemsworth stopped by Buzzfeed to answer questions while playing with puppies, which is one of the more ingenious concepts a publication has come up with for interviews. At one point, the pair are asked what TV shows they’re obsessed with, and it ends up that Taylor-Joy is deep in to HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon!
That question comes up around the 8:56 mark in the video below:
Hemsworth gets the Game of Thrones love-in going. “Game of Thrones was something,” he says. Taylor-Joy picks up the ball and runs with it from there. “I do really love dragons, and House of the Dragon is Game of Thrones but with more dragons. I’m very anxiously awaiting next season.”
It’s true: House of the Dragon, which is set over 100 years before Game of Thrones, does have far more of the winged reptiles crowding the skies. Who doesn’t love dragons? Chris Hemsworth’s daughter was apparently so obsessed with them that she wanted to be one, which is a tall order for a parent.
Could Anya Taylor-Joy ever play a Targaryen?
With her white-blonde hair, Anya Taylor-Joy looks like she could walk onto the set of a Game of Thrones show and pretty much go right in front of the camera with little to no prep werk. It’s not hard to picture her blonde locks billowing as she rides a dragon through the skies.
Could that ever happen? Taylor-Joy is a huge star with a lot of demands on her time, but it’s a completely absurd notion, especially with HBO working on a new Game of Thrones prequel about Aegon I Targaryen, the man who conquered the Seven Kingdoms some 300 years before the events of GoT alongside his sisters Rhaenys and Visenya, all three of whom rode dragons; Visenya’s dragon Vhagar is still around by the time of House of the Dragon.
I’m far from the first to suggest that Taylor-Joy would be a great choice to play Rhaenys or Visenya. And it’s not just her hair color. She’s a wonderfully expressive actor who brings a lot of intensity to her roles, as anyone who watches Furiosa this weekend will find out. That’s perfect for a Targaryen conqueror.
But we’re probably getting ahead of ourselves. There’s no guarantee HBO will ever greenlight the Aegon show. For now, House of the Dragon season 2 premieres on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16.
