Ever since Emily In Paris season one, hot French chef Gabrielle — played by equally hot Lucas Bravo — has been delighting the girls, gays and theys with his big blue eyes, clean-cut demeanour and soft-boy antics on screen. But during the press run for Emily In Paris season four, fans noticed that Lucas was rocking a very different look to his on-screen persona.
With longer hair and a sexy, scruffy beard, Lucas took on a different vibe to his Gabrielle, who he has previously said he resonated with in previous seasons. But after talking to the up-and-coming star about his character this season, I think the aesthetic vibe shift is a deliberate move to add distance between who Lucas is, and the character he’s been portraying for almost five years now.

“I don’t know Gabrielle anymore,” Lucas tells PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“I don’t understand the choices he makes, this naive approach to relationships and dynamics.
“I was really close to him in season one but now I don’t really understand his choices. I feel like he lacks a bit of instinct in perceiving whats going on around him, so I hope he’s going to wake up.”

For actors like Lucas playing the love interest in a romantic comedy-drama, it’s commonplace to develop a fanbase full of thirsty fans. While a growing fanbase is arguably a good thing, the 36-year-old doesn’t exactly enjoy his status as a noted hottie.
In fact, when asked about how he felt about being a worldwide heartthrob, he admitted he wasn’t too chuffed.
“Not good,” he sighed.
“I’m very grateful for people connecting with this character but I’m not into labels. I think labels are dangerous.
“We’re complex human beings and have so much more to offer. Being in boxes limits a lot of things that could happen and a lot of things we could offer so I’m grateful, but I don’t feel like this label.”
While Emily In Paris season four is Lucas’ latest release — and the series that brought him to international fame — over the last year he’s been taking on projects with a significantly different tone such as the independent horror film The Balconettes. He’s also been modelling for fashion brands and working closely with the United Nations and Oceanic Global on fighting against deep sea mining.
All this considered, I can’t help but think that if Emily In Paris season five becomes a reality, we might not be seeing Lucas Bravo’s name in the credits. But hey, that’s just my two cents.
You can watch Emily In Paris seasons one to four, part one on Netflix. Season four part two comes out on September 12.
