As the season went on, more twists piled up. Gabriel and Emily eventually found out that Camille wasn’t actually pregnant, a revelation that further complicated things. While Emily was stuck in the snow, she got saved by a new character, the charming Marcello Muratori, and just like that, a new love interest was introduced. Emily and Marcello hit it off, but Gabriel was never fully out of the picture. Then came the curveball no one saw coming: Genevieve Sylvie’s stepdaughter entered the scene. She played a major role in Emily’s breakup by convincing Emily that Gabriel never wanted to see her again. Believing this and that Gabriel had moved on with Genevieve, Emily decided to pack her bags and head to Rome, pursuing a new romance with Marcello.
But the drama didn’t stop there. While Emily was in Rome, Sylvie tried to interfere in her new relationship by targeting Marcello’s business. However, everything worked out in a twist, with Marcello’s mother agreeing to work with Sylvie’s agency as long as Emily took charge of the account, which meant she’d have to move to Rome.
The season concluded on an explosive note. Emily had officially moved to Rome and started a relationship with Marcello, while back in Paris, Gabriel decided to fight for her. He even asked Mindy where Emily was staying in Rome, setting up what promises to be an epic season 5.
So what can we expect from the season 5 plot? We believe the season will kick off with Emily living in Rome and enjoying her blossoming relationship with Marcello. The show’s creator, Darren Star, hinted that Emily will have a presence in Rome, but it doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris. He wants to stay ahead of the audience and take them to unexpected places. So while we can anticipate seeing Emily explore Italy with Marcello, think beautiful scenes in Tuscany or along the Amalfi Coast, it’s safe to say that Paris will still be an important part of the story.
In a recent interview, Lily Collins, who plays Emily, hinted at the journey ahead for her character. “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work-life balance,” she shared. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode.”
Darren Star also emphasized the chemistry between Emily and Marcello, saying, “I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”
But where does that leave Gabriel? Will he see how happy Emily is and back off, or will he try to win her back? And even if he does, will Emily choose to stay in Rome with Marcello? One thing’s for sure, things are about to get more complicated. After all, the show is called “Emily in Paris,” not “Emily in Rome.” So we know she’s bound to return to the City of Lights at some point.
There might have even been some foreshadowing in season 4. Remember when Marcello mentioned how much he loved London but ultimately missed his hometown of Rome and returned? We wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happened with Emily. She might fall in love with Rome, but Paris and her friends have become like family. It seems likely that she’ll want to move back at some point, but a long-distance relationship with Marcello would be hard to maintain.
It’s also possible that we’ll see the return of one of the show’s favorite tropes: the love triangle. With Emily in Rome with Marcello and Gabriel still pining for her in Paris, season 5 could see Emily torn between the two men. Or, given that Emily is focused on finding balance in her life, she might reject both and focus on herself for a while, opening up the possibility of new adventures and new romantic entanglements later on.
Now let’s dive into some of the most popular fan theories for “Emily in Paris” season 5. One of the most widespread and plausible theories is that Emily will ultimately end up with Gabriel. Even though season 4 left us with Emily moving to Rome and starting a new romance with Marcello, many fans believe this is only temporary. The consensus is that as Emily spends more time in Rome, she’ll start missing Paris and eventually Gabriel.
There’s also a growing belief that Marcello, who initially seemed like the perfect guy, will reveal a less appealing side. Let’s not forget that when he thought Emily came to Rome for business, he didn’t even give her a chance to explain herself and just walked away. Plus, when she brought up business during their time together, he immediately told her to leave, showing a lack of communication skills, a major red flag.
Some fans have even suggested that Marcello’s lavish behavior might be an early sign of love bombing. He showered Emily with gifts, flew her to Rome, and introduced her to his family when they’d barely known each other. These could all be seen as warning signs that Marcello isn’t as perfect as he first appears.
In contrast, Gabriel’s character, although a bit lackluster in season 4, might have been intentionally downplayed to make Marcello seem like the better choice for Emily. However, many fans believe Gabriel will get a redemption arc in season 5. Now that he’s gained clarity and realizes he wants Emily back, we could see a return of the Gabriel from season 1 and 2, the one fans fell in love with.
There’s also speculation that Emily and Gabriel’s story will mirror the Carrie and Big dynamic from “Sex and the City,” meaning that despite all the complications, they are destined to be endgame.
Another theory floating around is that Emily may end up in London by the end of season 5 or at the beginning of season 6. With Maison Lavaux expanding to London and Gabriel possibly looking to grow his restaurant business in the UK, it wouldn’t be surprising if we eventually see Emily in London. This idea has fans buzzing about a potential shift in the show’s location, adding a fresh twist to Emily’s adventures.
As for other characters, fans are also crafting their own theories. Many believe that Sylvie and Laurent will work things out after all their drama. Genevieve lied to Emily about Gabriel never wanting to see her again, so it’s not a stretch to think that Genevieve may have also lied to Sylvie about her mom’s relationship with Laurent. Sylvie will probably discover the truth, fire Genevieve, and send her packing back to New York.
And what about Mindy? There’s speculation that season 5 might feature a time jump and we’ll see Mindy return from her stint as a judge on a Chinese pop star show. Some even think she’ll reconcile with her father, potentially introducing a new storyline involving him. Since Nicholas didn’t seem like the best match for Mindy, there’s also a good chance she’ll rekindle her romance with Benoit.
As for Alfie, his story seems pretty wrapped up with his new girlfriend and career success, but we’re hoping he’ll make occasional appearances. Lastly, Camille might make a return as well, especially with her new baby, and there’s even hope she and Emily might rekindle their friendship.
Now let’s talk about the cast for season 5. It looks like most of the main stars will be reprising their roles. Of course, Lily Collins will be back as the one and only Emily, while Lucas Bravo will return as Gabriel, despite the turbulent relationship between their characters. Ashley Park is also confirmed to return as Mindy, bringing her incredible voice and lively spirit back to the show. Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who plays the fierce Sylvie, is expected to return as well, given how her character has evolved. Sylvie’s presence in season 5 is something fans are particularly excited about.
