It seems like Succession star Brian Cox still has some remnants of Logan Roy in him. He recently appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where he gave his opinion on “woke culture.”
Brian Cox went on Piers Morgan and blamed Millennials for the ills of woke culture in society.
Cox said, “And the whole woke, what we’ve talked about before, the whole woke culture is truly awful […] and the shaming culture,” adding, “Who are the arbiters of this shaming? And it’s very hard to pin them down, and, it turns out, it’s usually a bunch of millennials.” (via Deadline)
It appears that Brian Cox’s opinion on “woke culture” hasn’t changed much since 2022, when he also spoke to Piers about his displeasure with the concept, calling it a “modern-day McCarthyism” saying, “there is so much hypocrisy involved with the whole thing.”
Cox’s interview comes in the wake of the fourth and final season of his hit show Succession wrapping up. The Emmy nominations were also recently announced, and Cox is up for the Oustanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series trophy.
Succession actually already made history at this year’s Emmy Awards when Brian Cox was nominated in the same category as his co-stars Kiernan Culkin and Jeremy Strong.
This is the first time in the award show’s history that three actors from the same series were simultaneously nominated in the Lead Actor category. The category is pretty stiff competition this year, with Cox, Strong, and Culkin going up against Jeff Bridges, Bob Odenkirk, and Pedro Pascal.
Brian Cox in Succession
Since Jeremy Strong has already nabbed a Lead Actor Emmy, it seems more likely that Brian Cox of Kiernan Culkin would take home the trophy this year, with it being their last chance to win for Succession.
Culkin is even the Vegas favorite in the odds to win the award, but it seems likely his biggest competition would be Bob Odenkirk. It’s also Odenkirks last chance to win for Better Call Saul after being snubbed every other season for his incredible performance.

Along with Brian Cox, Culkin, and Strong, there are plenty of other Succession actors getting nods in other categories. Sarah Snook is nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress category and is a favorite to win.
Matthew Macfadyen is also favored in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category against his co-star Alan Ruck, and J. Smith Cameron is the only Succession entry in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category.
Succession is also favored to take home the big Outstanding Drama Series trophy for the night. Whether Brian Cox likes it or not, it is sort of funny that his most popular show is so successful and frequently takes jabs at the type of person who considers themselves “anti-woke.”

While Cox has given his co-star Jeremy Strong a bit of guff for his method acting, it seems like Cox is incidentally a bit of a method actor himself. Logan Roy would almost certainly hold “anti-woke” opinions as well.
In any case, you can now stream the entirety of the fantastic fourth season, along with the rest of the critically acclaimed series, on Max. We’ll find out if Brian Cox or any of the other Succession cast members and creative team take home some Emmys when the ceremony airs on September 18.
