Gambit’s Marvel Cinematic Universe fate after the conclusion of Deadpool & Wolverine gets addressed by Channing Tatum. One of the biggest Marvel cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine that ended up becoming a massive discussion point was Tatum finally getting a chance to play Gambit in live-action. Tatum was initially going to headline his own Gambit movie during the Fox-Marvel era before the studio was acquired by Disney, making his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine a full-circle moment.
In a new interview with Collider, Tatum was asked what actually happened to Gambit after the Deadpool & Wolverine ending, as the X-Men hero was briefly seen on a TV monitor at the TVA. As far as Tatum is concerned, he believes Gambit is actually still stuck in the Void, sharing the following:
I think at that moment, if I had to guess, he’s definitely still in the Void. But there’s something that’s happening in that moment that maybe no one knows yet.
Could Channing Tatum’s Gambit Retun After Deadpool & Wolverine?
Given his ambiguous fate in the Deadpool & Wolverine post-credits scene, Marvel Studios have left the door wide open to revisit Gambit in future films. While further Phase 5 projects currently look unlikely to feature Tatum’s Gambit again, Phase 6 is a different story. Since Phase 6 will be leading into Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, those would be the perfect installments to have Tatum reprise the role of Tatum.
Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will be the culmination of The Multiverse Saga and are bound to feature more cameos than ever from various Marvel properties. Not only could the Phase 6 films properly get Gambit out of the Void – if that is truly the case of where Tatum’s character is – but he could finally team up with other MCU heroes. There is even the chance of having Tatum’s Gambit cross paths with X-Men characters from Fox’s Marvel franchise.
Phase 6 is also possibly going to be the last time most of the MCU actors, and even Tatum, get to portray their characters. If it is true that the MCU will go through a soft reboot after Avengers: Secret Wars, that likely means a lot of characters will be recast, including Gambit, especially as Marvel Studios is reimagining the X-Men property. But for the time being, the world can continue to relive Tatum’s Gambit cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine.
