WARNING! This article contains spoilers for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, part 1 & Michael Connelly’s book, The Law of Innocence.Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 continues teasing a reconciliation between Mickey and Maggie, but do they actually get back together in the books? The cast and characters of The Lincoln Lawyer are led by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s Mickey Haller, a defense attorney who often operates out of his Lincoln Town Car. Based on the Mickey Haller book series by Michael Connelly, Mickey begins the series with two ex-wives: Prosecutor Maggie McPherson (Neve Campbell), with whom he shares his teenage daughter Hayley, and Lorna Crane (Becki Newton), his paralegal. While Mickey’s career ambitions prove to be the bane of his relationships, The Lincoln Lawyer hints that one of his broken marriages could be mended.

After the two considered reconciling in The Lincoln Lawyer season 1’s ending, Maggie and Mickey moved to being amicable co-parents once his case jeopardized her career. Despite their decision, The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, part 1 highlights the chemistry between the pair and implies that they’re still in love with one another. From being jealous of potential partners to laughing over their unique food truck orders, the lingering feelings between Maggie and Mickey haven’t waned since their divorce. The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 certainly hints Maggie and Mickey could get back together in the Netflix show’s future, with the books potentially providing the answer.

Mickey & Maggie Get Back Together In The Lincoln Lawyer’s Books

Just like in the series, the books that inspired The Lincoln Lawyer feature Mickey and Maggie frequently reconciling and splitting up again. However, the 2020 book The Law of Innocence ends with Maggie and Mickey in a place where they finally seem to be back together. While living together in the same house during the COVID-19 pandemic, the book hinted that Maggie and Mickey were back in a “relationship,” reviving their nuclear family. Of course, Mickey and Maggie’s will-they-won’t-they dynamic leaves open the door for another break-up, but this book gives the clearest indication yet that Hayley’s parents are back together for good.

While it seems that Mickey and Maggie have finally found their way back to one another in the novel series, Michael Connelly’s next Mickey Haller book, Resurrection Walk, could throw a wrench in this ending. Resurrection Walk is set to be released in November 2023, which is expected to give a clearer confirmation of where Mickey and Maggie stand romantically. Still, after several books teasing the strong connection between the two characters, it’s likely that their romantic reconciliation in The Law of Innocence will stick.

When Mickey & Maggie’s Reunion Could Happen In Netflix’s Lincoln Lawyer Series

Mickey and Maggie appear to be back together in the sixth Mickey Haller novel, but the Netflix series isn’t expected to wait six seasons for Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Neve Campbell’s characters to reunite. Netflix has been adapting the books out of order, such as The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 skipping book three to utilize The Fifth Witness’ story, which is the fourth novel. Considering Mickey and Maggie are still on the outs in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, part 1’s ending, it’s unlikely that they’ll get together by the end of part 2. Instead, Mickey and Maggie could get together as early as The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, though their will-they-won’t-they dynamic could be stretched out through a potential fourth season.
